It's Official!! I'm 30!!!

Can you believe it?! Today I turned the big 3-0!! How cool is that?! I've often wondered what 30 felt like and I can now say without a doubt that 30 feels great! People often ask, if I could get into a time machine what age would I want to go back to. Honestly, I wouldn't want to go back. My 20's were great, went to university, met a lot of great people but also had lots of papers and exams to live through..I'd rather not do that again. And if your honest, I don't think there is a person in their right mind who would want to go back to their teen years! All that awkwardness! Then you have the single digit years, those were fine but you had to go to bed at bedtime and you couldn't just snack when you wanted to -- doing that, would spoil your dinner. Yeah, so if this is 30, I'm certainly happy to be here! I have my wonderful husband, my beautiful baby boy and this blog to reach all my family, my extended family and friends. What more could I want?!

Yummy Birthday maple tart! Sweet!

Good times at the Dundee Arms.

A fun family tradition. The whipcream on the nose! YUM

A Tribute to Auntie Linda

We have enjoyed a wonderful summer with Grammy and Auntie Linda but the time quickly comes when we must say good-bye. Sean couldn't have asked for a more wonderful Auntie; Linda has fed Sean, walked with Sean and played nearly every game with him that a person could think of. Thank you Linda, for being such a blessing to all of us, not just Sean. We love you sooo very much and can't wait for Christmas, to be with you and Grammy again.

Sunday Fun Day!

Well, I hope you have your favourite beverage in hand and are all settled in, 'cause boy do I have a lot to share with you! Sunday was an amazing day! The day started early with Marko's dad ringing our doorbell. He had arrived the night before from B.C. He was anxious to meet his little grandson for the first time. Sean was all smiles for his Deda. Sean enjoyed watching Deda and using him for support. Later that morning my family arrived, Sean really got excited with that. He just smiled and smiled and was happy to have so many visitors at one time.

My family is an interesting lot. I love them to bits! And I know that they love me! How do I know this fact? Simple. For my birthday they didn't just walk into some glitzy store and purchase the first sparkly thing they saw. No! My family works harder than that, especially when picking out just the right gift! My loving and ever so dedicated family went dumpster diving for me!! Is that not love? To pick through someone else's trash to find that special treasure for your daughter's 30th birthday? And when they were happy with what they found there, they jetted off to the nearest garage sale for an accesory. How wonderful eh?! I can just feel the envy you have for me and the dedication of the family I have been blessed with. The gifts in question were (in order of location got/bought) a money bank in the shape of a can with the Toronto Maple Leafs logo all over it (I can hear already, the guffaws and snorts of fans of other hockey teams and to that I say, "Bite Me!") and a scarf of the same description. Sean was quite fascinated with the can. I should point out here that the can was full of change--over a hundred dollars worth of change! So yeah, I really do love my gifts, thanks fam!!

We had a great time with all that family together and took some pics to commemorate this special event. It was the first time that both sets of grandparents and aunties were together! My family left around 3:30 or there abouts and the house quieted down quite substantially. Soon thoughts about supper entered our heads. Marko's dad had a hankering for some tastey Lebanese food. Since we had coupons for Shaddy's, a great local Lebanese restaurant, we settled on that. I must confess now that I haven't really had much Lebanese food and I wasn't quite sure how gung-ho I was about having a plateful of it for supper, but I decided to go for it!

Lebanese food is absolutely the most fantastic food! Plus all the dishes have these great sounding names like: Yabrak, Fattouch, Hummus, Babhaganouch, Baklava and Lamb Shishkabab. And I'd have to say the craziest thing I had to eat was calamari! Nothing quite like battered and deep fried squid to finish off a meal! Oh and turkish coffee, that was wild!! But the funniest part of our cultural excursion had to be when the British fella from another table started doing magic tricks and inviting us to play along! Too funny...wish I had pics of that!

***Editor's Note*** I should say that my folks didn't actually dive into a dumpster, they found the can in a wastepaper basket. :)

Sean meetin' and greetin' all his guests.

How adorable!! My little Leafs fan.

What a great looking family!

A Tribute to Grammy

Since Grammy's time with Sean is growing short I thought that this would be a good time to say thank-you to Grammy just for being her and caring so much for Sean. It really has been wonderful to watch the relationship blossom between the two of them. I know Sean will miss you as will Marko and I. We love you very much!!

Boys and Their Toys

On Thursday Sean and I had delightful visit with Tammy and her son Michael. Sean had a great time with Michael and Michael was quite fascinated with Sean. Michael is around 22months and had a few toys that he no longer plays with that he gave to Sean. Sean loved the toys!

"Good morning Daddy, have a good day at work, I love you!"

This Kid Is Too Cute!

Sean can be such a little ham for the camera! I love it! Oh and about that bedtime game we play, yeah so now Sean will take like 3 steps and then wait for me to pull him back! Wayyy too funny!

You would think he knew how to pose for pictures!

I think he really looks like his Daddy in this pic.

I love this outfit, its for a 12 month old, but as you can see, Sean is already busting out of it! Posted by Picasa

Fun Times at Bed Time

More than once people have told me that a bath before bedtime will help to soothe and calm a baby. Really?! Cause with Sean that's definetly not the case. As soon as his little bottom hits the water, any sleepiness he may have had seems to vanish and hes ready to go again! By the time I've got him in his pjs he wants to play some more. So tonight we discovered a new game. He would crawl to just about the end of our bed when I would gently grab hold of his chubby little ankles and drag him back up to our pillows. He would giggle and then be off again to the bottom of the bed. As soon as he felt my hands around his ankles he would actually stretch himself out and wait to get pulled back. By the end of the game he had manged to pull back the quilt and sheet, all the way up to the pillows! Needless to say he was quite pleased with himself.

"And as I go, I love to sing, my knapsack on my back!"

Sean tinkering in his new toy cabinet.

"Just checking your cleaning Mom. Looks good under here!"

Is He a Big Boy or a Little Boy?

In so many ways Sean seems like a big boy; the way he looks at you when you tell him no, how he gets his ball when you ask him where it is and how he loves to cruise around the room. Yet in other ways he's still a little fella; like in the way he settles in to enjoy his bottle, how he likes to nuzzle just before being put to bed, and how he still loves to play peek-a-boo.

That's a pretty big chair for a little fella.

I can hardly believe that we used to use this laundry basket as a bassinet for Sean to sleep in! Now he likes to be pushed and pulled around the room in it! Posted by Picasa

Tweaks

As you may have noticed, I've been tweaking the blog, trying out some new stuff. I really like it! Now you know exactly how old Sean is!

So not only did I tweak the blog yesterday, but I also went out with Jennie over to Tammy's place and we reinvented our hair! We had soooo much fun! We probably should have started the process a bit earlier though...I didn't get home till 2:30 in the morning...not a smooth move on my part! Tammy is the best at doing highlights! Jennie and I tried to do each other's hair once before and it was pretty much a disaster. But last night in the professional hands of Tammy our hair came out looking amazing!! Thank you Tammy!

Jennie: "I love chips!! I could eat them all day!" Doug: "I can't believe I'm seeing this!"

Jennie: "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful..."
Tammy: "I can't believe they tried to do this on their own..silly girls!"
Me: "I am sooo glad I got my day pass from the assylum!"

"It's how early in the morning?!?!"

This is My 100th Post!! Can You Believe It?!

Not only is this my 100th post but today was Gold Cup and Saucer Parade day! For those of you not familiar with this spectacular event, it is a very big deal. It celebrates our harness racing heritage. Simply put, a good excuse for a huge and long parade. Sean and I went with Bonnie and Abby for some good times curbside in downtown Charlottetown. We had great seats! Sean really enjoyed all the hub bub. He was all about the bouncing up and down as the different musical bands went by. Unfortunately, he was long overdue for a nap by the time the parade was finally winding down. Poor guy went from 8am to shortly after three without a nap. All in all though it was a good day! Oh and you know what else happened today?! I got summoned for jury duty! How crazy is that?!

Just waitin' for the parade to begin.

Havin' a wee bit to drink while taking in all the fun!

Gramma Hope Came to Visit

It was marvelous to have Gramma Hope come to visit. Sean had a blast playing with, crawling on and playing ball with his Gramma. He also enjoyed some quality peek-a-boo time..so cute!

Gramma certainly seemed to enjoy spending time with her grandson. She was quite amazed at just how active this little fella really is. Both Gramma and I spent a fair amount of time taking Sean out of the no-fly zone a.k.a the television/dvd area. We also had a good time wearing him down, by letting him walk (with his Fisher Price toy) back and forth between us. We must have done that like 6 times in a row! By supper time the little eyelids were drooping, and his eyes had that glazed/zoned out look to them. Gramma suspected that he would be "all in but his shoelaces" by the time I plunked him in bed. I knew better than to hope for that. For after his bath he was all giggles and wiggles--didn't even want to stop long enough to take a swig from his bed time bottle! Yet, by 6 o'clock my wee little one had finally ran out of steam, and was sleeping peacefully...Phew!

" Peek-a-Boo I see you!"

And this is Sean's third hand--he is determined to take at least one of his toys with him wherever he goes.

Another One Bites the Dust...

Okay, let's take stock here, first the digital camera went for a spill; luckily we were able to fix that, next the monitor blew a fuse and we got a replacement, this time it was a knick knack. A candle and its candle holder. Poor Sean had no idea what happened. He just sorta stood there all shocked like and I as I came over to him, he started to sputter. I figure this is just the first of many such mishaps. Not that I'm encouraging Sean to be destructive, but I'm also not dillusional about what a toddler is capable of no matter how diligent a mother I may be....oh and I broke a vase today..Will this ever end?!

In other news, Sean had his first try at cookies the other day! He's been quite the independent fella lately as far as feeding himself goes. Pretty near every meal time he enjoys feeding himself his cherrios and then I'll cut some fresh, ripe fruit for him and he slides that in. I'm still trying to spoon feed him his veggies and cereal but this is becoming more challenging every day. He constantly either wants to take the spoon himself or will grab the contents of the spoon and shove it in his face himself. He managed the cookies purely by accident. While we were at a friend's house, her toddler came in with a bowlful of cookies and accidently tipped it over on the coffee table. Sean was making his rounds of the coffee table at the time and didn't hesitate to snag a cookie and pop it in his mouth. Not surprisingly he wanted another one!

"Okay Daddy, you say Grace and then bring on the FOOD!"

"You call that a meal? I could have eaten at least 5 more handfuls!!" Posted by Picasa

Apparently We Suffer From Dropsy

For whatever reason, we the Perics seem to be suffering from some acute dropsy. Thankfully we only seem to be dropping all things mechanical. This means that Sean is safe!

This time it was our trusty Fisher Price monitor that met it's demise. Again gravity took it's toll on this hard little worker. It was a great monitor, with the flashy red bars and the volume control and what not. It did its job well with nary a complaint until tonight, when all that could be heard was a steady and unsettling buzzing. Sean, although quite accomplished in his ability to razz, has not quite matched this quality of sound. I finagled with this knob, I flicked that switch, to no avail. I was not to hear the sweet cooing of my slumbering son on this particular monitor ever again.*snif*

When Marko came home I explained our situation. Luckily we haven't had this device for a year yet, so maybe, just maybe we can get a new one under warranty, he thought! Well, while that would be nice I agreed, we are missing some key components; a receipt and orignal packaging. Plus we got this as a gift and I have no inkling whatsoever as to whom the giver may have been. Marko was not to be undaunted from his quest to snag us a replacement. He was off with the faulty monitor in tow. He hit Zellers--no good; they have monitors but not Fisher Price ones. To the WalMart-- same story. This left him with his nemesis, Sears! He was ready for a tough fight and so was thrown a little off balance when the sales lady said, "Sure we can exchange that for you, just go grab one off the shelf and bingo bango, you'll have yourself a brand new monitor, mister!" Okay so that's not exactly what she said, but by bingo bango we have a new monitor. No more flashy bars; its just little circular red lights. However, Sean gets a night light out of this because there's one built into the transmitter. How cool is that?!

Aunty Linda Sean going for a slide...Anyone out there able to guess where this slide may be?

A wee little gathering of wee little ones!

"Okay Mommy, just hand me the keys and I'll be off!"
