The Results Are In...

And while our story of how we met didn't win, we did manage to make it into the top 5 runner ups!! Which means that soon we will be the happy recipients of this book:

I'm actually kinda excited to get this book. I have the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World and I really enjoyed it. So this should be good!

I just want to say thank-you to all of you who voted and left so many wonderful and heartwarming comments! It was a lot of fun to read them all. I'd also like to thank Bonnie for sending a message to her youth group to help the cause. And another thank- you goes out to Kim who put the link in her status on Facebook (that was awesome!!) And yet another thank-you to anyone who got their mother to vote too!! (Thanks Stephanie!! Say hi to your mom for me!!)

Fun story: The other day while I was in the washroom, Emma-Lyn woke up crying. I could hear Sean open the door to her room and all I could think was oh please don't climb up the crib! And boy was I ever in for a shock to find him standing by her crib saying, "It's okay Emma-Lyn, calm down Emma-Lyn, you're alright Emma-Lyn." Such a sweetie.

And today he was pretty cute too. I was emptying our paper waste into the recycle bag and he came right over and said, "I'm here for you Mommy. I want to help." And help he did, he grabbed papers and shoved them right into the open bag.

Just loving the spring weather that has finally arrived.

Just lookin' cute.

"Make one joke about my hat and POW, right in the kisser!!!"

If I Only Had A Brain!!

I mean really, it is quite amazing that I'm actually able to keep myself together through a day!

Last night I was just getting Emma-Lyn ready for bed when the phone rang. It was Bonnie wondering if I was coming. Hmmmm, I thought. And just where was I supposed to going? I wondered. I soon realized that I was supposed to be at a Bible study at that very minute! Yipes. I thought that I would still be able to make it, but that was just wishful thinking. I had to call back to let them know that I just couldn't get there in time.

Then there was this morning. I was soooo tired and just wanted to nap a little longer. While Sean watched his Monkey George, I snoozed away on the couch. After my half hour nap, I snapped off the TV and just sorta sat there in a sleep- induced stupor when Emma-Lyn woke up. I groggily made my way to her crib, scooped her up and headed back. And no sooner had I reached the kitchen when there was a knock at the door. I was stunned to say the least. I was still in my PJs and my hair was totally sporting that ever popular slept-in look! The door opened and there were Melissa and Menita!! Melissa took one look at me and said, "Do I have the wrong day, should I leave now?" Oh, I felt so dumb. I totally forgot that I was looking after Menita this morning! Poor Melissa just kept apologizing. If only she knew that I was half brain dead. It was alright, the kids just watched a little more Monkey George while I pulled myself together...

Sigh. Where was my brain in all this? Did I put it on the shelf next to the peanut butter and forget to pick it up again?! I mean really!!

Now for some sweet photos my baby girl:

How Daddy handles feedings when I'm not home. Ain't she a cutie?!

I just love her expression in this one!

Thanks For All the Food...

A big thanks going out to Mike and Nancy for our supper on Sunday night! Mike had a new recipe and we were very willing guinea pigs! And afterwards we were very happy and full guinea pigs!

And a big thanks to Brian and Bonnie for supper on Monday night. Marko hadn't been feeling well that day and stayed home, but we managed to get him over to B&B's for some great tasting grub! Yay for spaghetti and steamed asparagus! There's nothing quite like good food and good company to get your week off to a great start.

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day!! It was warm and sunny. The grass is turning green and the trees are beginning to bud! I am ever so glad at this point to not be living in western Canada where they just got a whole load of the white stuff!!

Bonnie and her girls were over and we had a great time playing outside today. Part of our fun was going down to the mail box and checking the mail. (one of Sean's favourite pastimes) And what to our wondering eyes should await us there, but a pretty sizable package!! Sean was thrilled, we took it back to the driveway and opened it there. Inside were two lovely wrapped packages, one for Sean and one for Emma-Lyn. Within, we were delighted to find cute outfits for the two of them. Sean got pants and a shirt that has a front end loader on it...the perfect shirt for our vehicle aware boy. And for Emma-Lyn, a really sweet outfit with embroidered jeans! Thank you so much Lyn and Wendy!! I just love it!

And in case you're all wondering how Emma-Lyn got her name, well the Emma is derived from Marko's Grandaddy whose name was Emmett and the Lyn is from my middle name which in turn is from this particular Lyn--He and his wife Wendy have been life long friends of my parents. How cool is that?! Oh and Emma-Lyn's middle name is Hope and she got that name because my maiden name was Hope.

And just in case you have been wondering for the longest time how Sean got his name, well, before we were even engaged Marko and I just both loved the name Sean for a boy and that particular spelling. Sean's middle name, Marius, was my Pake's (pronounced: pah-kah--Friesan for Grandfather) name. So there you have a little history in our names. Fascinating eh?!

And now for your viewing pleasure, some random photos:

Sean and Abby at the play-place in McDonald's. This was their first time there. It was fun as well as a little harrowing to watch them try out the play area. Thankfully they didn't get too far up into the thing.
This is the package that arrived today!!

And here we have our resident aritiste, Bonnie, providing some lovely original artwork on the driveway...notice that there are no children about...hmmmmm so why did we buy the sidewalk chalk?! :)

Hannah enjoying her first ride in this type of a swing!

Sean, also in a swing. Sean learned a most valuable lesson today. One must hang on if one hopes to stay on the swing...otherwise one will fall off said swing in a most dramatic way. Don't worry, he was mostly surprised more than anything else when he hit the ground.

She Did It!!!

My baby girl slept all through the night last night!! She went down at 6:30 and didn't get up until 10 to 6 this morning!! How wonderful is that?! I have to say though, that there was a part of me that missed the late night feeding...but sleeping through the night is definitely a great thing!

And in some totally unrelated but fun news...Do any of you watch Corner Gas or 24? I love to watch Corner Gas and I used to watch 24 (it got a little too violent for my tastes). Well, tonight was the finale of Corner Gas and they had the BEST cameo ever on it! Kiefer Sutherland! And what made it all the more funny was that they were doing the episode in real time like they do in 24. I loved Davis' line about Kiefer still living at home with his mom! I also loved how Kiefer acted all Jack Bauer too!! So funny...and then the microwave clock gag, that was classic!

I guess for those of you who don't watch either of those shows that whole last paragraph was a bunch of goobledy-gook...and for that, I am ever so sorry.

The Training Wheels Are Coming Off...

Today Sean finished yet another Potty Party chart. This time his reward was to actually wear underwear!! He was ever so pleased to wear his monkey George undies...Unfortunately it didn't take him too long to have an accident in each of his 3 pairs of undies. Oh, well. He's making progress! He is really good at going poo in the potty. And he'll take off running to the bathroom whenever he feels one coming on, which is great! I'm very thankful for that. Now, if he could have that same sense of urgency with pee. So, now he only wears his pull-ups for nap time and bed time. Let's hear it for the joys of potty training!!!

Can You Believe It?!

My wee baby girl is 3 months old now!! And she's growing like a weed...well, I guess that's not entirely true. 'Cause I'm not really sure how much more she weighs or how much longer she might be but she sure seems bigger! :) Looky here:

Just hanging out in the play pen.

As of last night Emma-Lyn is now sleeping in her own room rather than in the cradle in our bedroom. I can't tell you how much a difference this has made even though her room is really more of a storage closet just off of our own bedroom. She's now in the crib. It was some job trying to get the crib mattress back up to the proper level for her. I probably should have waited till Marko came home to tackle that one but I managed anyways.

Here are her new digs:

And here is her old digs with all the stuff that used to reside in the crib...I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with all this stuff!!

I'm going to be daring now and say that Spring has officially made its way to PEI!! Yipppeeeee! It has been so warm and wonderful these past couple of days! Flowers are actually beginning to bloom and the grass is slowly but sure starting to turn green!! YAY! I am so happy and we have taken full advantage of each nice day by being out in it. Some days we play in the driveway with our sidewalk chalk and the tricycle and other days we head to the backyard to play on the swing set.
Sean loves to play with this ball. He'll throw it, shout with glee, then run to go pick it up again, as seen here:

And here he is on the swing set:

There is Supposed to Be a Video Here

But I'm still waiting for it to upload. So instead I just have a couple of pics of Emma-Lyn in her exersaucer for the very first time. She really isn't old enough or big enough to be in but I thought it would fun to see what she thought of it. Here she is:

"Ooooh, this looks like lotsa fun!!"

"Yeah, I can really see myself getting to like this spot a lot!!"

Such a sweetie pie.

HE DID IT!!!

Yes, the boy has finally done it! He has pooped in his potty and not only that!! He knows when it's coming and will ask to go to the bathroom (sometimes just to fart). And now for the best part...he's done it 2 times today and once last night!!! YAAAAAHOOOOOO!! Oh, the exciting times to be had at the Perics'! We're now on sticker 85 and nearing the end of the chart and the beginning of wearing underwear!

In other news, about the contest, voting is open until the 20th so if you haven't voted yet there is still time. We're up to 13 comments so far which puts our story in the middle of the pack. We NEED your vote. I'm not sure if you're allowed to vote more than once. I don't think it says anything about that on the main site, it just says the story with the most comments wins! So here is the LINK, please leave a comment...am I starting to sound a bit desperate? Oh, dear...;)

Having Fun

Hey just wanted to thank everyone who has voted for us thus far for their support. Currently I have 9 comments and the last time I checked the lady in first place had 29 comments...so surely there might be oh, I don't know, maybe like 20 of you out there who would just LOVE to see Marko and I have a date night together at someone else's expense?! I promise I'd document the occasion on this here blog if that would sway any of you to leaving a comment. At any rate whether we win it or not, I just want to say how sweet you all have been with the comments. I was just expecting something like, "I vote for you" or just a simple, "vote." But most of you have put in some sweet words and encouragement. Thank you so much for that!

So I have the following two pictures on the blog more for my own observation but would love any input anyone has to offer. There is about a month's difference in the timing of the pictures, my question to you is, do you see any difference?

Here she is last month:

And this picture was taken today:

The next picture I just think is ultra-adorable.

Yesterday Sean got a special package in the mail from Grammie Peric (it occurs to me now that when my mom sent a dvd to Sean I didn't blog about it, but then I didn't have the camera out at that time either, but thank you Gramma Hope)

Anyhoo, Sean was thrilled with his new book about Tough Trucks. He was so excited about it that he sat right down beside the driveway to read it! :) It was such a beautiful day too. I could almost believe that spring was really here to stay!!! Now, not only did Sean receive a gift from Grammie Peric yesterday but we also got a call from her that very afternoon as well!! What fun to hear from her too. Sean was busy sitting under the deck and throwing mud at the house to add much to the conversation. (you just should have seen the boy's pants after that, totally caked in mud!!)

Here he is reading his new book:

After book time we decided to take out the sidewalk chalk and try out our artistic skills.
I also did up a Hopscotch board for him which he had a lot of fun with.

Well, I don't know if you've ever had to potty train someone but I have to say that it is not my favourite part of parenting! We seem to get so far and then we slide right back to where we started.

That said Sean does seem to be getting better. He gets quite excited to make a big pee in the potty. We're still using a sticker chart, which Sean enjoys and it seems to be improving his counting too. So that's cool. He still hasn't pooped in the potty but today was his closest time yet. Usually he'll just run to his room and poop in his diaper there. But today he would actually stop what he was doing call out, "Poopy mommy, I have to poopy." Unfortunately each time I got him on the pot he just let out a toot. But still I think this is progress. Once we finish this current sticker chart (he is at square 63 out of 100 squares) we will be putting him in underwear for better or worse. I've read a few stories about going straight to underwear and I think this would be our next step.

We already have the unders. Here is the boy modeling them for you:
Hmmmm, and I wonder why I'm having trouble potty training?!! :)

Just Two Pictures I Wanted to Post

Post Bath Time

Out on the town.

Knitters Club

This past Saturday evening was the second installment of Knitters Club! Yeeeee Haw! A couple of gals and I get together to knit and chat and have a relaxing evening...well at least that's supposed to be what happens. But this week we decided to live a little on the wild side and do something completely different. This time we were going to watch a movie while we knitted!!! How wild and crazy is that eh?!! Would you believe though, that we didn't even do that?!!

Instead we (that is Bonnie and I) decided that this was the perfect night to highlight our hair! And who better to do the highlighting than our very own Jennie!!! This was her expression when we asked her to be our stylist for the evening:

"You want me to what now?!!"

(oh, I suppose I should mention that on these nights Marko usually goes over to Brian's place to hang out)
So, Bonnie and I picked up some hair highlighting kits and came back giddy as school girls! Bonnie was up first. I forgot to take a before shot but here we are mid process:

Are you ready to get down with this wild and funky bunch?!! I'm not really sure what I'm trying to do in this picture...I can't imagine that tasting Bonnie's hair would be such a great idea.

And now for the finished product:

Ain't she just soo be-u-ti-ful?!

And now here is my before shot:

Lotsa dark old hair just hanging around.

Here we are mid- process...
"Sure hope she knows what she's doin!"

"Sunshine!!"

Well, would ya looky here, I can get my hair done and knit at the very same time!!

And now the finished product:

Two lovely ladies, totally thrilled with their new dos!!

It's Been a Bit of a Day...

It all started this morning with Emma-Lyn having two big poops. Which of course doesn't sound all that off since babies are supposed to make a lot of poop, but Emma-Lyn just doesn't. She definitely isn't a once a day pooper, she's more of a once a week kinda gal. So when she does poop its a bit of a surprise.

Lunch time provided some more surprises. While it wasn't a surprise that our landlord has been working on his stairs, it was a big surprise when this work set our smoke alarm off (our smoke alarm and theirs are connected so if one goes off so does the other). This means that while we were eating our lunch we were serenaded by the ear piercing wailing of the alarm and there wasn't a thing we could do about it. Luckily it stopped quickly, unluckily it started up again and seemed to want to continue for some time. It was then that I realized that I could take the thing down, unluckily I couldn't figure out how to do that. Luckily Marko was online and I was able to ask him how to do it and finally I did manage to get the blasted thing down! Phew!

Thankfully all the noise from upstairs stopped for nap time, which I took full advantage of! When Sean finally got up from his nap I noticed that he just didn't seem himself. He had a poopy pull up and was exceptionally whiny. After changing him I decided to check his temperature it was hovering between 100 and 101...Not great. He felt quite hot too. He didn't want to play but instead just wanted me to read book after book after book. I was able to oblige him until it was time to feed Emma-Lyn.

At that point he started complaining that his stomach was itchy so I told him to go lay down on his bed for a bit. Halfway through feeding Emma-Lyn, I heard the unmistakable sound of throw up and did my best to quickly unlatch her and go see to Sean. Before I could do that though, Sean came out of his room looking for a cloth to clean up his mess!! Can you believe it? He wasn't crying or complaining, just looking for a cloth to take care of his mess. I got his bed sheets off and him cleaned up and took his temperature again. This time it was down to 99. He also started acting like his old self again which was great to see!

Whatever he had, I'm hoping it is already done. He seems to be sleeping well tonight so we'll see how he is in the morning.

The Promised Pictures

Here is Emma-Lyn in the outfit the lady from church got her and the baby record book. I have to say that the outfit isn't one that I would've picked out myself for baby girl and I think it might work a lot better if I just dress her in the pants or the jacket rather than the two together...gets a little busy with both on her.

She sure is happy though!

Hey Auntie Linda, I just couldn't wait any longer to put her in her camo pants!! Isn't she the cutest?!

I LOVE this smile!

She has the best big brother a girl could ever hope for!

Ready to read us a story!

I'm PREGNANT!!!

Can you believe it?!
What's that?
You say you can't
Well, that's probably good since it's not true...
Happy April Fool's Day!!

Today has been quite the day! This morning Sean had a great time having Menita over. The two of them had a blast playing in the tent and they even helped me bake cookies. And whats more they were both all about cleaning up the crumbs on the counter as seen here:

Menita making the full arm stretch to get that last lingering crumb.

Just the two of them picking away at the crumbs. Menita is standing on the ottoman while Sean is standing on his step stool, in case you were wondering about the height discrepancy.

This afternoon was even more fun. On Sunday one of the ladies at church had asked me if there was anything I needed for Emma-Lyn and I really couldn't think of anything other than clothes. She said well anyone can get clothes and was there anything else she could give me , because she really wanted to get me something. This was so unexpected and I really couldn't think of anything at the time so she said I could think about it and give her a call when I did. Well, later the next day I realized that I really would like to have one of those baby record books for Emma-Lyn. So I called her up and told her and she was like, great lets go shopping tomorrow afternoon and I'll pick it up for you!

Wow! So today we all climbed into her van and off we went. I had thought we were just going to go into Walmart pick up the book and that would be that...I was ever so wrong! We stopped at Old Navy first where she picked out a cute outfit for Emma-Lyn and then proceeded to pick out a new wardrobe for Sean too!!! I was totally flabbergasted! She got Sean, 3 shirts, a pair of pants, a sweater, a 10 pack of socks, a pair of shoes and a baseball hat! I thought that was going to be it but no, she still wanted to pick up the book too! I am so thankful!! Sean loves his new stuff. He put on some of the outfit this evening, whattya think:

How sweet is this on him eh?!! I just love it!

I'll have to put Emma-Lyn in her outfit tomorrow and I'll take a picture of her book too for you to see.
