Here Comes New Years!!

Sorry for the lack of posts folks.  As you can imagine things have been fairly busy here.  We enjoyed our Christmas at home and Boxing day at the Hopes.

The kids even slept in on Christmas day which was really nice. :)  We did stockings (we give stockings to each other so even the Big Kids get a stocking) and then had breakfast and headed out to church.  After church we sat down and enjoyed opening our presents.  The kids were so much fun to watch and they just seemed so delighted with every package they opened.  As for me, my favourite gift that I received had to be the DSLR camera that Marko got for me. :)  I was so shocked and excited all at the same time.  He bought the one I had borrowed so very many times from work.  It was like opening a surprise gift and receiving an old friend! :)

We spent a lovely afternoon with Marko's mom and sister and we ate the MOST DELICIOUS cheesecake!

The next day we all piled into the car and drove the long way around to my folk's place.  The kids did a great job, its a 4 hour drive with one pee break so kudos to the kiddos!  So happy to spend time with my family.  We built a snowman that the kids quickly smashed apart.  We opened more presents and ate a lot more food!  It was grand!  After the kiddos went to bed, we played some Trivial Pursuit--only we skipped using the board and just asked the questions.  I highly recommend this method of playing, lots more talking and laughing about possible answers.

We made our way home after lunch the next day, we were fortunate to have great driving days and not much snow to worry about.  We have enjoyed a slower pace now and look forward to the festivities tonight.  We're all heading to the church for a potluck supper afterwards, we're dropping the kids off at home with Grammie and heading into town to celebrate the new year with friends.

So from all of us, We wish you a most Happy New Year!

And a quick shout out to my Uncle John and Auntie Gwen Hope who sent not only 1 photo of the aunts and uncles but 3!!  I hope to put those up on here in the new year! :)

Birthday Fun!

Phew, what a time birthday parties can be.  I thought I was going to make things simple and as time went on it just seemed like things were getting more complicated.  I decided for Sean's kid party to do cupcakes instead of  a big cake. I figured there would be less mess this way.  The only problem was that I didn't have enough muffin tin liners so I decided to make them without and that ended in a catastrophic fail.  The end result was hard little charcoal rocks.  Not good.  I tried again latter Friday evening and thankfully they turned out but, talk about a wasted morning.

Saturday morning I made shortbread cookies for the kids to decorate and then I made the coloured icing to go with it.  That also seemed like a lot more work than it needed to be but, the kids enjoyed decorating their own cookies so I'll count that as a win!  After the cookie decorating Sean opened his gifts and they all went to play while we set up the table cloth on the floor and set the table with cupcakes and chips and cheezies and juice.  This went over really well and cut down on messes!  The kids had a great time and by 4 most of the kiddos had gone home.  My friend Laura brought us a toddler bed for Nate so she and her kiddos stuck around while we moved the bed into Nate's room.  This was a bit of an engineering feat since one of the banisters and a railing had to come down in order to get the bed upstairs.  Tonight  is Nate's second night sleeping in his big boy bed and he is doing really well.

On Sunday Nate and I stayed home from church.  He was full of the cold and I needed some down time.  But then I remembered we didn't have a cake for the family party so I baked a cake and some chocolate chip cookies, Nate helped. :)

We had a wonderful visit with my family and with Brian and Bonnie and their girls. And no sooner had our guests left, than we were all piling into our car to head out to another party for a friend of ours!

Such a busy weekend, tomorrow we're taking down Nate's crib and putting up the Christmas tree.  Should be fun!

While the Hopes were here, we thought we'd do a wee impromptu photo shoot...

Ahhh, now that's more like it!!

My How Time Flies...

Hard to believe that Sean will soon be 6 whole years old!!

This Saturday is his kid party which will be followed by his family party on Sunday.  I'm busy pulling things together for his kid party.  I'm trying to keep it simple so as not to lose my mind.  Simple decorating, simple cake, simple activity, simple grab bag = sanity still intact...Or at least I hope so. :)  He is more than a wee bit excited about the whole thing.  Anyways, it's late and there is lots to do tomorrow and I need to get to bed.  I hope to have pictures up of the parties on Monday...we'll just have to wait and see if that actually happens!!

Who knew that something so small, and helpless could turn into this:

A big ball of boundless energy!!!  I love my big boy!
