Day 365!!!!

WOOO HOOO I did it!!

Project 365 is COMPLETE!!

I have to say, I was somewhat dubious that I would get this far when I started this project but with the support of my wonderful friend, Denise we made it through!!  We both put up pictures every day this year and I am so proud of Denise and her amazing photography!

And now as time quickly winds down on this year I am quietly reflecting on all the good times, the hard times, and the in between times.  And I am just so very thankful for my beautiful family, both immediate and extended. I am very thankful for all of my friends. The ones far away and the ones near, you all hold such a dear spot in my heart and I honestly don't know where I'd be without all of you! And most importantly to me, I am ever so thankful for my Saviour who knows all about me and loves me abundantly.

Happy New Year everyone!

Day 364

Enjoyed a pretty awesome day today. We puttered about doing odd jobs in the morning and then this afternoon we enjoyed a long overdue visit.  My wonderful friend Amanda came to see us!  I was ecstatic! I haven't seen her in nearly five years and it was ever so good to see her, hug her and laugh with her again! We must visit again soon!

Me and my Weedly Weed! She da BEST!

This morning I finally tackled cleaning my fridge out--it was also overdue for a visit!  And Levi came by to "help."

Day 363

It was an early run into Charlottetown this morning for a doctor's appointment for Marko and Emma-Lyn.  Just a check up for Marko and we have meds for Emma-Lyn.  We ran some errands in town and even stopped in to see Nanny Power for a quick visit and to thank her for the Christmas gifts.

This evening we went to Red's for Nate's milestone achieved meal!  The children really enjoy the little play area and the food and service are great too!  I had the Red's Pub Club with fries and gravy.  I thought I was the only one that liked gravy on my fries.  Apparently Mr. Levi has a hankering for the stuff as well!  He proceeded to dip all his fries in my gravy...Just as well, I's not like I need the calories!!

And now for a little song:

One of these things is not like the others, One of these things just doesn't belong, Can you tell which thing is not like the others. By the time I finish my song?

Day 362

Another big milestone passed in the Peric household.  Not only are we celebrating our 5th anniversary of our move to Montague but also Nate lost his very first tooth today!!  That boy was some excited!  To celebrate the big event we'll be going out for supper tomorrow night at the restaurant of Nate's choosing. He's pretty pumped about that!

Day 361

Well, all the late nights caught up with us this morning and we all slept in and missed the first meeting at church.  We did make it for the second meeting and enjoyed a lovely time with our church family.  I'm back into being a Sunday school teacher and have a small class of two on a good day.  Today it was just Emma-Lyn and I and we enjoyed working together through our material.

It started snowing this morning and it's still going this evening.  The kids were anxious to try out their new sled!  This afternoon I took them to the hill behind the church and they had a fine time coasting down the hill! If I had been thinking, I should have called around to see if any friends would have liked to join us!

When we got home it was time for some hot chocolate with marshmallows!

Saturday, December 26, 2015

Day 360

Happy Boxing Day!  It was a very relaxing, putter around the house kind of day.  The kids let us sleep in late which was heavenly.

Sean and Emma-Lyn painted their mini canvases while Nate played with Lego.  In the afternoon we went to Auntie Linda and Uncle Henk's place for some Boxing Day fun.

 Miss Emma-Lyn's masterpiece.

Love the joy in both their faces!

Day 359

 Merry Christmas!!

Spent a wonderful day with my fam jam.  The kids slept in a whole 15 minutes later than usual! It was fabulous!  They all came barreling in our room full of Christmas cheer and eagerness.  Marko and I got dressed and followed the exuberant children down the stairs.  It was a mad dash to get into their stockings and asking to have that first piece of chocolate.

We went straight from stockings to opening presents.  Nate was not overly impressed with getting socks...but what he lacked in enthusiasm, Sean more than made up for when he opened his bag of socks.  All of the kids were ever so excited for their large set of Lego that they got.

We had a late breakfast and Grammie Peric popped in and then we headed down to the church to help serve Christmas dinner.  The kids really enjoyed helping out and meeting new people.  It was a wonderful blessing for all of us to be part of this. We're hoping to make this a Christmas tradition.

After lunch we came home to relax and enjoy some of our Christmas goodies.  Marko and I helped the kids put together their Lego creations.  It was fun to create with Lego with the kids. They're so full of excitement and energy and the satisfying click of the Lego as it all comes together is fantastic!

For supper we had left over lasagana, salad and multigrain baguette. After Levi went to bed, we opened up our new Settlers of Catan game. Sean, Emma-Lyn, Marko and I enjoyed a fun filled game while Nate enjoyed playing with all the new Lego by himself.  It was a pretty late bed time for the kiddos but we had a blast!
 Enjoying a new book.

 Enjoying a game.

Fun with toys!

The kids attempting to play in our only mound of snow.

The tables all set up for the guests to arrive for a delicious Christmas dinner.

Day 358

We spent a busy morning at a local church helping to prep for Christmas dinner. There were lots of veggies to chop, chairs and tables to set up and centre pieces to set up.

Marko and Sean are out doing some last minute shopping this afternoon.  When they get home it will be time for some hot chocolate and to play Ticket to Ride Europe. This evening we'll head out to our church service and follow that up with checking out the local Christmas lights before heading home to open our Christmas pajama gifts.

From our family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Wednesday, December 23, 2015

Day 357

The kids are pretty high strung on Christmas crazy!  We did manage to clean the house and Marko ran a few errands in the morning.

In the evening we played a few rounds of Pit and Sponge Bob Uno. At supper time the kids had their pizza first and then we sent them to the living room to watch Frosty while Marko and I enjoyed a mini date night.  We enjoyed our cheeseburger pizza by candle light and discussed our plans for tomorrow.  When the kids finished their movie we cleaned up the kitchen and then settled in to play some Lego together.

Our creations and games.

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

Day 356

The kids and I enjoyed delivering our little Christmas treat plates to our neighbours this morning.

In the afternoon we had piano lessons and a play date and Sean had his last curling lesson of the year.

Marko got off work early so we piled everyone in the car and headed in town to run an errand or two and stop in at Pizza Delight for supper.  A great start to Christmas vacation.  Now to begin our traditional Marvel movie watching with Ant Man.

Monday, December 21, 2015

Day 355

The kids and I are on Christmas vacation and it is awesome!

We all just puttered through our day today.  Early on we got the Christmas tunes going and I put on my apron and we set to work baking up a storm.  There were moments when dancing and loud singing broke out and other moments when Levi would call out for a hug and share a bite of his banana.  I may have sneezed a few times which sent Levi into fits of laughter!  So much so that he was demanding that I keep on sneezing and he laughed just as much at my fake sneezes.

In the afternoon we had two lovely visitors who had clothes to drop off.  Nate is now the proud owner of a dashing dress shirt and tie and I got a bag load of clothes this time!  It's not very often that mommy gets some nice hand me downs!

Marko is out doing some last minute shopping  this evening and checking out the latest Star Wars movie with a friend.

And I'm just enjoying the quiet and the glow from the Christmas tree.

Sunday, December 20, 2015

Day 354

This afternoon we were supposed to all go to a Power family Christmas get together.  Levi desperately needed a nap this afternoon and I'm dealing with a bad headache so we stayed home.

This is Levi fresh up from his nap.  He decided it was important to take at least one sock off and put on his hat before playing with his dinkies.  I had hoped to snap a shot of him playing with cars but as soon as he saw the camera out, he decided it was time for a photo shoot in front of the tree.

Saturday, December 19, 2015

Day 353

I don't know about you, but every time I see a house decorated like this:

I feel the urge to yell, "A plague o' both your houses!" Cause, honestly this house looks like it has come down with a serious case of green measles or chicken pox or some other such disease.

And in other news, the kids and I enjoyed going Christmas shopping for daddy today. It was nice to get it all done right here in Montague.  Whenever I can, I like to support local businesses.

Friday, December 18, 2015

Day 352

Today was busy but fun.  We cleaned the house and then enjoyed a much overdue playdate with wonderful friends.  Marko came home early this evening so that we could get supper in quickly before heading in town for Emma-Lyn's first dance recital.  She did a fantastic job. I am ever so proud of her and she had a blast!

Afterwards we stopped in at Tim Horton's and enjoyed some celebratory hot chocolate and doughnuts. We also stopped in to see the singing lights in Stratford before heading home.  I gently reminded the children that they're more than welcome to sleep in tomorrow morning...So hoping that pans out!

My beautiful girl waiting to go on stage.

 Ta-Da!!  Fantastic job girls!!

I just loved the rain droplets on the cedars this morning.

Day 351

This is Mr. Super Awesome Lego Dude. This is what we do instead of Elf on the Shelf.  We don't do Santa so having an elf that reports back to him about how the kids behave just wasn't going to fly.

My amazing friend Denise has kindness elves that visit her boys over Christmas and this is kind of our spin on that idea.

Mr. Super Awesome Lego Dude moves from place to place in the house and leaves a special note for the kids each night.  He tells them all the wonderful kind things he's seen them doing and offers words of encouragement as well.  No hi-jinx by the little visitor, just a fun hunt to find him and the enjoyment of all that he has to say about each of the children.

You know what the best part is?  The kids know it's me but they still enjoy it!

Oh, and this is his horse: White Christmas.

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Day 350

Enjoyed a really fun day today.  The kids enjoyed starting the day by playing in the snow.  We got our school work done and then enjoyed a most fun and fairly chaotic playdate! It was a blast!

Afterwards the kids and I read some more of the Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict and then played some Mysterious Benedict Society games on the computer.

Highlight of the day was getting to video chat with my sister on the Wii U!

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Day 349

It's been a bit of a stormy day outside today. We worked hard at our schoolwork and enjoyed a quick playdate before our friends had to head home to beat the nastiness of ice pellets and high winds.

The ice has stopped and now the snow is falling.  We're still in a snowfall warning with a possible 15 to 20 cms expected.

This evening I did up a little Christmas goodie tray for the wonderful staff at Marine Nav.  There's shortbread cookies, chocolate dipped shortbreads, toffee chocolate cookies, mystic bars and mint chocolate thin cookies.

Monday, December 14, 2015

Day 348

What a super fun day we had today!

We walked down to the church for our homeschool get together. The kids made graham cracker houses, listened to a Christmas story and listened to a few of their peers play some Christmas tunes on the piano. As well, we had a Christmas bake exchange.  So many delicious goodies to try over the Christmas holidays.

Afterwards we continued with the fun and had most of the group join us at our house for more play date fun for the kids and coffee and conversation for the parents.

It was a great way to spend the day...And now we await another winter storm  to hit us sometime tonight...I've got my storm chips!!

Our little village.  Unfortunately Emma-Lyn's house succumbed to the weight of candy on the roof.  I was impressed about her good attitude about it when she explained that she might not have a house but now she had a graham cracker boat!

Nate and Sean playing their Christmas music.

Sunday, December 13, 2015

Day 347

Our kids were fueled by Christmas cheer today.  They were ever so excited for their Sunday School Christmas Concert. They did a fantastic job!  All of the children spoke clearly and confidently and their songs were delightful.

Three cuties all set to head out to their concert.  Emma-Lyn felt she should curtsy for this shot.

Saturday, December 12, 2015

Day 346

It's been a great day, did stuff, went places and now Marko is at games night and I'm reading the kids' read aloud book.  We've read the rest of the series, this is the prequel.  And just like the rest of the books I can't put it down.  All evening I've glanced at the clock and told myself I'll just read for another 15 minutes and then go do the blog post...and now it's five minutes to midnight!!

Anyhow, it's a fantastic read!! If you're ever looking for an engaging, fun and mysterious read you simply must check out The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict by Trenton Lee Stewart!! You won't be disappointed!

Friday, December 11, 2015

Day 345

Full day.  House cleaning in the morning a nice chat/playdate/piano practice in the afternoon and in the evening Marko and I went out. We went out for supper, went to a little Christmas party and then stopped in to DQ for some ice creamy treats with friends. And since by this time it was midnight we made a trip up to the Superstore to cash in on their no tax day on Saturday! Fun!

Yum--I had a turtle blizzard.

Day 344

This is me ever so happy with my amazing hubby who fixed my memory card so that my camera could read it.

We had a pretty good day today.  Sean made me a hot chocolate at breakfast time which was lovely. And he got cracking at his school work while Nate and Emma-Lyn listened to their Awana CD. Today we tackled some geography. The kids really enjoyed learning about the compass rose on a map. Sean made his own compass rose and then began telling me where things were according to their orientation in the house.

In the afternoon I found what I thought would be a great flourless chocolate pecan cookie recipe.  But I needed more pecans and some corn syrup.  Sean ran out and got the ingredients for me.  It did my mama's heart proud when he came back and told me how he let an elderly lady go ahead of him at the checkout.

Sadly, the cookies were an epic fail. I had a cookie sheet of hard cookie shells over a big gloopy mess. I was bummed. However by this time the kids and I had piles of laundry to fold and supper to prepare.  Levi even tried to help fold laundry but soon gave up.  However he still wanted to help and took a couple of his things upstairs.  He didn't get them into his dresser but every little bit helps!

After supper the kids and I were off to Awana.  I can't get over how excited the kids get about going to Awana and saying their verses.  And next week they each get to make their own gingerbread houses! May the countdown begin!

Oh, and I think the highlight of my day was when I took Levi up for his nap.  We always sit and rock on my rocking chair.  He holds his little soft book and his bottle of milk in the other hand. I cover him up in his blanky and I sing whatever song he wants.  He'll make his requests of horsey song, or the coo coo song or the bus song.  He usually smiles up at me and cuddles in. He must have been pretty tired today since he fell asleep in my arms.  It's been so long since he's done that.  I just soaked up all that lovely little boy goodness and I eventually got up and put him in his crib...sigh.

Wednesday, December 09, 2015

Day 343

Enjoyed a lovely playdate this morning with a wonderful group of homeschooling moms.  We talked, drank tea, ate the most delicious soup and homemade bread and we went for an exciting trek through the woods.

We also got to check out some goats and chickens, or as Levi likes to call them, ducks. I guess we'll have to work on animal recognition a little more.

Mr.Levi hanging with the goats.

Tuesday, December 08, 2015

Day 342

Just enjoyed listening to a photography webinar.  And one of the fun things they suggested to try was the manual focus out of focus shot--on purpose. Obviously, you wouldn't want to do this with kids in the picture but kind of a fun abstract shot.

It was a good day today.  We did our school stuff and then it was time to head outside to rake some leaves.  Yes, it's December 8th and I'm just getting to raking the leaves!  I have heard that it's good to leave the leaves on the lawn but we seem to have more than our fair share of leaves.

Monday, December 07, 2015

Day 341

Today we enjoyed a fun craft making morning with our homeschool group.  The kids had a blast.  It may have been chaotic by times but all in all, everyone had a great time.  There were some really great crafts.

This one was my favourite:

Day 340

Today we enjoyed a lovely visit with my folks.  We celebrated both Sean and Karina's birthdays.

I am quite certain now, that if my head was not so very much attached to my neck I would surely forget it somewhere...

This morning just as we were heading out the door I went to grab my jacket.  Only, my jacket wasn't there.  And I could not figure out what I had done with it.  Marko asked if I had left it at the curling rink. And I responded with, "Do you think I would be stupid enough to walk home without my jacket?!!"  Apparently I am and was and I couldn't even remember walking home without it! Bah!!

Love this!

Day 339

Wow! Sean is ten years old today! I can't believe we've hit the double digits already!  That said, I am pretty proud of this boy.  He has a sensitive heart, a penchant for gaming, a love of books and learning and a lovely sense of knowing Jesus.

Today we went down to the curling rink for Sean's first tournament.  He was pretty pumped!  He and his team worked hard and they were the winners.  They each got to pick out their own trophy.

My folks had planned on coming today but the boat had a mechanical problem.  Hopefully we'll see them tomorrow to celebrate both Sean and Auntie Karina's birthday.

Sean in action.

 Pretty happy guy!

Day 338

Wow!  That was not the day I envisioned when I woke up this morning...

It started off harmlessly enough.  Same old routine, get up, get dressed, get breakfast, get Marko out the door and so on.  We had lots of freshly fallen snow from our storm last night and the kids were eager to go out and shovel.  Things are still going smoothly.  I work on tidying up and getting things ready to get some baking done. This is when everything starts to slide sideways.

I hear Levi crying upstairs and he didn't sound too upset more like he just wasn't happy.  I left him thinking he would figure it out.  But then he just didn't stop so I did go upstairs and the poor lad was stuck in the ladder to the loft bed.  I sat and consoled him and brought him downstairs just as the kids were coming in from the cold.  I made some hot chocolate and was just about to start my baking when the power went out...again. Sigh.

Emma-Lyn pulled out my new yarn and suggested I show them how to crochet.  I thought that was a great idea. The yarn had other thoughts--it was a wee bit tangled up and it seemed the more I tried to untangle it, it just got worse.  Eventually I just had to sit down and slowly and meticulously wind up the yarn into a big ball. The power came back on which I was ever so grateful for since it was time to make lunch.  I did finish rolling up my yarn.

I was just getting lunch together when Emma-Lyn came down and told me that the taps in the bathroom wouldn't shut off.  I was all like, what?? She just kept repeating herself so I ran up the stairs and into the bathroom. It was Niagra Falls in there.  The faucet was on full blast and the soap suds...oh the soap suds were epic!  I tried to turn off the taps but nothing.  PANIC!! Oh the panic that ensued.  I knew then that I had to get the water shut off.  I flew down the stairs and yelling at Sean to clear out the closet so that I could get to the basement.  I knew the shut off was down there but I wasn't sure where it was.  I called Marko at work but couldn't get through...I thought I would loose my mind...I ran to my computer and found him online and typed:

Marko's rsponse: sure what's up?

By this time Sean had the closet cleared and the trap door opened:  I ran down the stairs shouting at Marko all the way.. "TELL ME WHERE THE SHUT OFF VALVE IS NOW!!  THE WATER IS GOING EVERYWHERE!!" And Marko, ever the calm one, gently says, "Okay it's in the basement by the electrical--it's a valve and you just need to turn it."  "I'M AT THE ELECTRICAL AND I DON'T SEE IT!  HELP ME!!" "It's right there, and you just need to pull it.." "FOUND IT!! IT'S OFF...It's's off..."

The kids meanwhile stayed in the kitchen and prayed, bless their hearts--so thankful for their thoughtful hearts.

The panic was horrible.  And I was so mad at myself for not knowing where the shut off was in the first place.  Marko came home after that to help me figure out what went wrong and get things back in order since we are hosting Sean's birthday party tonight.

Now the bathroom is back in order, the boys are here and playing Lego.  Sean wanted a boys game night for his party.  No streamers, or balloons-- just games, food and fun.  I can go for that!  Gotta love the low maintenance party!

Soon they'll be making subs and munching on chips and playing a game or two.  Marko has taken the rest of our kids for a trip in town. I might try to get my baking done while the boys play.

Thursday, December 03, 2015

Day 337

What a weird start to the day.  The power was out for much of the morning and kinda sent the morning into a tail spin.  Marko didn't have work, the house was feeling kinda on the cool side, and we had breakfast by candle light. And it was so dreary this morning that it didn't exactly inspire great bursts of energy.  Rather, I felt much more inclined to just curl up in a blanket and read a good book.

Thankfully, the power was back on by lunch time.  We spent a lovely afternoon with the Bowmans.  Denise and I had some fun snapping some pretty Christmas light photos.

Wednesday, December 02, 2015

Day 336

It was a baking and do your school stuff orally kind of day. The kids answered math, spelling, history and language questions while I made shortbread squares and cookies.  I love the stained glass cookies.  Then we made a little plate up for a special friend of ours.

We had our lunch then headed over to her house to drop it off, unfortunately she wasn't home when we called but we left our little plate on the deck with a note.  Then we were off to the Murray Harbour library.  It's such a cute little library and the Kay, the librarian is great!  And I loved that they had wrapped up books that you could sign out.  Each gift had a tag giving a little description of what was inside as well as the bar code for the book. Genius!  On our way home we stopped in at the Montague library as well and picked up a few more many books!

Tuesday, December 01, 2015

Day 335

It was great to get together with our homeschool group this morning.  We're meeting in a new location. The kids enjoyed exploring and playing in the new space as the adults chatted and planned for future events.

In the afternoon the boys had their piano lessons and are excited at the prospect of sharing their talents with our little homeschool group.

This evening I took out my yarn and crochet hook to try something new.  I tried a few different "easy" patterns before settling on this one.  I actually understood all the instructions and was able to do an okay job of it.  It looks more like an interesting blobby bit of yarn than a flower, but I enjoyed learning something new and being creative!

Monday, November 30, 2015

Day 334

It has been a good day.  The kids enjoyed playing in the freshly fallen snow this morning before doing their school work. Everyone did a great job getting everything done and this afternoon the kids made some chocolates. We'll be giving these to our neighbours in our little Christmas treat plates this year, as well as some other little goodies.

This afternoon I worked on putting up more primer on the bathroom walls.  Funny, how when you find a job like that to do the kids all want to be in there with you!  Sean came to join me first. He was looking for help in typing his first play on the computer.  Once he was satisfied, Emma-Lyn popped in wanting to learn her Awana verses. She did a great job and it wasn't long before  Nate came scampering up the stairs with his handbook ready to recite his verses.  I managed to finish off the primer that we had and will have to pick up some more if I hope to ever finish this project.

Sunday, November 29, 2015

Day 333

A fairly quiet Sunday, although the kiddos in the nursery at church were a little wild and wooly!

In the afternoon we did creative quiet time, Marko and Sean went on their date and the kids played in the snow.  When they came inside it was definitely time for some hot chocolate with candy canes.  I caved and let the kids watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. They loved it, and I may have enjoyed it with them too.

This evening they cancelled our church service due to slippery roads and snow squalls.  This meant some extra creative time after supper. While the kids finished up their chores and played for a bit, I pulled out my pencils and made this sketch. I like the result but definitely need to keep practicing.

Day 332

Enjoyed a great family fun day.  Marko and the boys got their hair cut this morning while I puttered around the house tidying up and getting things ready for our outing to see the Christmas parade in Charlottetown.

The kids were very excited to see the parade.  We went to our usual spot in front of the Maritime Christian College.  I love that the students set up tables and offer yummy hot chocolate.  This was Levi's first Christmas parade and he seemed to enjoy it.  His favourite things to see were the dirt bikes.  He kept calling out, "Bike! Bike!"

Afterwards Marko dropped me off at the Swiss Chalet while he took the kids home.  I met up with Tammy, Karen and Jennie for our annual Festive special and Christmas party.  It was a fun evening full of food, fun, gifts and lots of laughter.  My kind of way to end the day.

We drew names for the gift exchange.  This is what Tammy got me.  I love it!

Friday, November 27, 2015

Day 331

Busy day of cleaning and shopping and soon some playdate time which will be great fun.  Then this evening Sean and I are off to Stratford for a birthday party.  I'm dropping him off and then doing some Christmas shopping with my friend Tammy.

I'll be picking Sean up at 8:30 and heading home to Marko's games night at our house.  And once I've shooed Sean off to bed it'll be time to call a dear friend in Quebec and curl up on the couch with an herbal tea.
This boy loved playing in the leaves when we came home from our shopping excursion.  Then to his delight our friends Claire and Holly pulled up and this was his reaction!  Love it!

Day 330

Just had to run out this morning before breakfast to snap some shots of the frost.

We had a great homeschooling day.  Although we did have to make a run to the store for some ingredients for our baking time this afternoon.

It always makes me a little nervous going to stores during school hours.  You just never know what people might say.  Some people ask why the kids aren't in school and for the most part when we say we homeschool we get positive responses.

But then there are other times when people just stare and say loud enough for you to hear, "Why are they  here??"  This wasn't spoken directly to me but my children heard and it kinda smarts

I feel like I should plaster stickers on my kids and I that say, "It's okay for me to be here, I homeschool."  Not a big deal, just a pet peeve I guess.

Day 329

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...  The kids were so excited to listen to Christmas music today!  Nate's first words to me were, "We get to listen to Christmas music today!!" They were over the moon when they found out we'd be putting up our Christmas decorations after we got our school stuff done.

Sean and Nate had their piano lessons and Claire and I as well as our daughters practiced our step dancing.  It was a lot of fun.  Looking forward to Friday's practice!

I love the cozy, golden glow of the lights on the Christmas tree.
