Day 31

The weekend is here and things are fairly quiet.  The weather has been a mixed bag of snow, freezing rain and rain making the roads fairly messy so we're sticking close to home.  Marko has put up a shelf in the kitchen and shoveled the driveway while the kids played in the snow.  I've taken the opportunity to overhaul my linen closet and declutter as well as organize it. Now it's quiet time and everyone is doing their own thing for an hour.  I think this afternoon we'll watch Fantasia 2000 and pop a chicken in the oven for supper.

Here is Miss Emma-Lyn trying out her cooking abilities.  I let her make her own concoction and it turned out pretty well.
Sean even had two pieces for dessert last night.

Day 30

Never a dull moment!  I was in the living room when Emma-Lyn came tearing out of the kitchen exclaiming, "Mom, MOM, he's got it every where!  The stuff! It's on the floor!!!"  I came running into the kitchen to find this:

The boy had found my little packet of chili powder and dumped it on himself and the floor.  I came in just as he was taste testing it and I thought, "HA!  That will teach ya!" turns out the lad likes chili powder...Figures.

Day 29

Today's science fun includes checking out a rose petal.

Looking through the microscope--so cool!

Day 28

Just gotta love spending time at the library reading a book.

On a completely and much more funny note, Nate went on a playdate this afternoon.  He had a grand time playing in the snow and hanging out with his friends at their house without his siblings getting in his way.  Everything was going smoothly when the dad happened to "let one rip."  I thought maybe Nate would find this funny and giggle a bit, but he went one farther by exclaiming, "My mom farts ALL the time and just like that too!!!"

Great, just great... :)

Day 27

It was the blizzard of '15 and we were stormed stayed.  It wasn't all that bad but definitely worth staying home all warm and cozy while the wind whipped the snow against the house.  Thankfully Marko didn't have to go into work and was able to get work stuff done from his little office.

The kids wanted to stay in their pajamas all day and that is just what they did.  Gotta take some time to read some Calvin and Hobbes before getting on with the day's activities.

They LOVED making a cyclone in a bottle.  I used this shot because of Emma-Lyn's expression!

It was even more fun when we added beads to the mixture.

Even daddy had to get in on that action!

After lunch the kids and I worked on our solar system mobiles.  First we read a short story about about space and then everyone got to work making their own mobile.

Since the beads were out the kids made some little creations as well.

Once the snow finally eased up we went out and shoveled the driveway and the kids had fun with their sled.  Then it was time to come in for some hot chocolate and a movie.  The children really enjoyed watching Ratatouille.  Now all the little ones are in bed, the house is quiet and there is gentle pitter pat as the freezing rain hits the window pane.  I wonder what wonders tomorrow will hold.

Day 26

Looks like a big ol' blizzard is making it's way to our part of the world tomorrow.  Once our school stuff was done and we enjoyed our read aloud time, we got busy making preparations.  We made biscuits, bread and chocolate chip cookies.  Everyone had a bath and clean sheets are on the beds.  I made a chicken dinner tonight so that we'd have chicken available for sandwiches if our power happens to go out.  The kids watched a movie tonight since tomorrow we'll be making our solar system mobiles and trying to make a hurricane in a bottle.  Lots of fun stuff to do while the storm rages on.

Today the kids also took some time to build things and wanted their picture taken.  Here they are with each of their creations.

Oooh cutest moment of the day goes to the moment when daddy came home and Levi came smiling over and attempted his first big ol' kiss...So sweet!!

Day 25

This is my awesome friend Michelle. When we aren't chatting or laughing then we're usually dancing.  And our dances usually end like this!  I have my awesome friend Denise to thank for taking this great picture.

Day 24

A lovely quiet day at home for Levi and me.  Marko and the children are at the church helping with a big clean up and painting day.  It's been nice to have the house so quiet and be in my own head space for awhile.  It's also nice just to get through a list of chores without much interruption.  Levi has been happy to toddle about while I do laundry, wash windows, clean and organize the fridge, bake cookies and a loaf of bread.  We take breaks and play some and now he's down for his nap and I can put my feet up for a little bit.

The picture was taken yesterday while we were playing What Time is it Mr. Wolf.  I love trees and it's fun just to look straight up anytime of year.

Day 23

Another fun toy.  This is a handheld microscope that Sean got from Great Hobbies for his birthday.  He has had a lot fun investigating all sorts of things.  Today while we were out playing in the backyard it seemed a perfect time to take a better look at the ice.

Day 22

I just love this toy that Grammie Peric got for Sean.  The kids and I will have great fun studying the night sky with this helpful tool.  Not only can you see the different phases of the moon, you can also see what solar and lunar eclipses look like too.

Day 21

Sweet baby feet!

The day started off slow but the kids picked up the pace and got their work done before 11 o'clock which meant there was lots of time for read alouds.  The kids and I do enjoy reading and especially our current series which is the Grandma's Attic series.  The kids and I could just read chapter after chapter all day.  In the afternoon I did laundry and the kids played Lego and then I felt like playing some hymns on the piano.  The kids stopped playing Lego to come listen and ask for their favourites which was really nice.  I'm not a very good piano player. I can  only play the melody which was enough for the kids and I to enjoy and sing along.

And this evening we managed to squeeze in some science when we looked out at the evening sky and spotted Venus shining brightly along side the crescent  moon.  The kids were thrilled and we pulled out our books about planets and did some more reading.  And after supper the kids decided to watch some Magic School Bus before heading up to bed.   It was a nice quiet day at home.  I like those kinds of days.

Day 20

This morning we enjoyed a lovely winter morning walk in a friend's forest.  The kids all enjoyed  taking turns using the compass to show the way through the woods.
And after all the fun of trudging through the woods we came inside for some nice hot apple cider and time to play and chat.

Day 19

The perfect place to sit and read my books and sip my tea.

Day 18

This is a really awkward and poorly lit shot but I had to take it.  I knew I wanted a picture of Levi's sooky book.  I meant to take it earlier today but I forgot. This was taken while I was feeding him his bottle at bedtime.  Levi just loves this book, it has little tags on it that he enjoys rubbing and he just loves to mash his face into the soft fuzzy pages.  I love that when it's nap time or bed time and I ask him where his sooky book is, he'll go look for it and happily come back squeezing it tight against his chubby little body.  I admit that there have been some evenings and naptimes where we all went on a massive search to find his beloved book since otherwise the little man might not be as willing to fall asleep for any great amount of time.

Day 17

Today we had Emma-Lyn's birthday party.  During the party Sean and Nate went out with daddy since  Emma-Lyn wanted an all girl party this year. She had a few friends come over and we had a bit of a Frozen theme.  When her guests first arrived they worked together to put together a puzzle of Sven, Kristoff , Olaf and Anna.  Then we were off to the living room to play some Freeze dance, so fun to watch the girls pose and jump around.  We headed back to the kitchen to play pin the nose on Olaf and have cupcakes.  The kids picked out their books from our book exchange table and then settled in to watch Frozen for the zillionth time! When the boys came back they wanted a chance to play the pin the nose on Olaf and then had to have mommy give it a go.  They were giggling as I blindfolded myself and then they spun me then....Voila!

And in case you're wondering mine is the one on the left hand corner of the page...I am so good at this game!

Day 16

It's hard to believe that just seven years ago I was waiting impatiently for my sweet little girl to be born. She is one firecracker of a girl, full of vim and vigor.  She is dramatic, silly, sweet and a whole lot of fun to be around.  I love you so much  Emma-Lyn!!

Thursday, January 15, 2015

Day 15

It took me awhile to psych myself up to get my snow stuff on and Levi's.   Thankfully it wasn't really all that cold outside and out we trudged in the fresh white snow.  I thought this might be a great time for a photo shoot of Levi having fun playing in the snow.  He was less than impressed with the snow and stood seemingly rooted to the spot and just looked around.  I tossed some snow in front of him and that elicited a smile but not much more.  Then he took his mitts off and promptly stuck his hand in the snow...oh the howling that ensued.  And that was the end of that.

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Day 14

The kids and I worked on some paper mache masks a few days ago and Levi thought he should try mine on.  Mine turned out to be a hat rather than a mask.  I'm not sure that Levi is entirely delighted with the results but he's still mighty cute!

Day 13

The roads are dicey this morning so our regularly scheduled homeschool get together has been cancelled.  The kids were pretty disappointed but thankfully daddy brought home an old router yesterday and the kids are enjoying taking it apart this morning.

Day 12

What a wildly productive day it was today!  The kids all got their piano practice in before school time and school time was fantastic!  Started our new solar system unit which the kids are pretty excited about.  We watched the Magic School Bus Lost in Space and afterwards Sean insisted that he needed to see our science text book since they missed a couple of dwarf planets.  I was surprised that Sean remembered this tid bit of information since we haven't studied this subject yet.  The boy has quite the memory!  Along with our studies we also managed to purge the kids' clothes including Levi's stuff.  And that is when I came across this item:

I try not to hold onto too much stuff, but there are some things that I have a hard time parting with and this is one of them.  Levi was just so cute when we bundled him up in his little koala sleep sac and it's hard to believe he's already too big for it.  He seemed so cuddly and warm in there.  I have a few things from when each of the children was little that I'd like to hold onto just because it reminds me of them and that time when they were so little.

Day 11

Since Levi isn't feeling quite up to snuff, he and I stayed home this morning while the others went off to church.  After getting our crock pot lunch together and tidying up the kitchen, Levi went down for his nap and I pulled out my latest find from our local library.

I've read all the other books and when I found this one, I was ever so delighted.  It was lovely to pick this up and fall back into an old friendship. And now I'm tempted to go back to the beginning and them all over again.

Day 10

It was 5 o'clock and I still hadn't taken a picture for my blog and there wasn't really anything of particular interest to take a shot of until I spied Emma-Lyn's little loveys.  She loves little delicate things so I decided to work on composition.  It was a good practice in looking at everything in the frame before taking the shot.

Day 9

My little drummer girl with her new Hello Kitty.  Can't believe she's going to be seven next Friday!!

Thursday, January 08, 2015

Day 8

Just enough time to sit down for a cup of tea and finish up my reading for tonight's homeschool meeting.  I'm really enjoying Charlotte Mason's work and  using her ideas in our homeschool.  I love this quote from today's chapter, "As for literature-to introduce children to literature is to instal them in a very rich and glorious kingdom, to bring a continual holiday to their doors, to lay before them a feast exquisitely served."

Day 7

Sean loves his Lego and his Lego club magazine.  He loves to read about the different Lego creations that other people have made and excitedly found a special opportunity to share his own creation. He was pretty pumped for the chance to participate in a contest that is looking for vehicles for a swamp police squad.  This is Sean's Amphibious Flyer. He has the chance to win a cool Lego set if his masterpiece is chosen.

Day 6

Today after our homeschool meeting this morning the kids and I went on a spontaneous play date that lasted until the evening.  We all had so much fun with the Beuckerts!  The older children got to go with the older boys to Awana tonight so that left us at home with the girls and Levi and they decided to serenade Rachel and I with some fun drum beats!  What a hoot!  It's so nice to just pop in and settle in for a lovely visit with wonderful friends on a whim.  Thank you Rachel for your gracious hospitality!

Day 4

Talk about a cutie pie!  I love this picture for a couple of reasons.  Nate is wearing his new camo trappers hat and this is special because his daddy bought it for him when they had all gone shopping together in Charlottetown.  I go shopping with the kids all the time so it's a very special time for the kids to go out with just daddy.  They had a grand time and both boys got new hats and Emma-Lyn got a new sparkly purse which she was ever so pleased with.  They spent the whole day together running errands with daddy and had a grand time. And this picture is great 'cause LEGO!!

Day 3

Our words matter.  Whether spoken or written down our words matter.  My family and I love to joke and to tease and when better to do that than on your birthday.  I remember receiving a card from my folks with the sentiment that read "We like your face so much that we had a jelly mold made of it and serve it to guests!"  Even just thinking about that card makes me laugh.

And then this summer they gave me this card and I read it looking for the punchline. I giggled after reading it thinking that there must be something up. But there was no punchline just honest encouraging, loving words.   While I enjoyed the jelly mold card, I didn't keep it.  This one, I'm keeping. I knew that my parents loved me and that they were proud of me but there's just something special about seeing it written down and given to you.  I love my parents and love how they love me.

I hope that I too, will be able to share humour with my children but also express how deeply I feel about each one of them.  They are each unique and I couldn't imagine my life without them.

Day 2

Books!!  These books were given to the children for New Year's Day from their Grammie Peric. The kids were excited and I was hooting and hollering right along with them as each new book was unwrapped.  Nothing compares to the wonder of a new book!  And there is such a lovely variety in this group!  And I have to say that the Human Anatomy book is my favourite.  It has great information and four jigsaw puzzles of the skeletal system, the muscular system, the nervous system and the circulatory system!  Sean and I worked on the nervous system this morning.  Can't wait to try the others.

That's quite a few new books so I've spent my afternoon purging our bookshelves to make room for the newcomers. I now have two bags full of books.  If anyone is looking for some books for their little ones, you are more then welcome to come take a look and take what you'd like and leave the rest.  Good reason for a playdate! Not like you actually need a reason but there it is.

Happy New Year!

This year we celebrated New Year's Eve with our wonderful friends the Bowmans.  They have a lovely in-law suite so we even got to sleep over!  The kids were so excited that the moment they got up they got packed and needed to know our ETD and were just a little miffed to find out they had most of the day to get through first.  We ran some errands and got things straightened out before heading out for the evening.  The kids were ever so thrilled and bounced off the walls and just had themselves a mighty fine time. The adults were also pretty excited and looking forward to a fun evening of games.  We had a yummy dinner of chili and then sent the kids up to watch a movie while we played Carcassonne. Then it was bed time for the littles and we played Settlers Seafarers expansion.  And in the middle of the game we took a quick moment to shout Happy New Year!! Such a fun way to ring in the new year.

Today, after a lovely breakfast of french toast, we headed home for a little down time before heading to Grammie Peric's for supper.  It was another lovely evening filled with great company, delicious food and fun games!  The kids are pooped!  And I think I may need an earlier bed time tonight as well!

And with the beginning of a new year I'm looking forward to beginning a new project.  It's called the 365 project and my plan is to post one picture a day here on this blog.  There may not be a post to go with it but there will be an image of some sort.  I see this as a great way to get back to posting more often and enjoying my photography.

So without further ado I give you Day One's contribution:
