Day 120

Well, that was a bit of a day.  We were up and at 'em early to get into Charlottetown in order for Marko to get into the eye clinic at the QEH this morning.  We forgot to bring change for the parking and something for snack time so we dropped him off and picked up some ginger snaps and iced tea.

When we arrived at the clinic it was packed but there was some room to sit down and a little play area for the kiddos. Levi loved the play area and the rest of the kids found new books to read. Marko went in for the dye test and returned to wait out his time.  By this point Levi was getting bored and wanted to wander into the case rooms.  Instead, the kids and I walked down the outer halls to keep him busy and out of trouble. There was lots of walking and Levi charming the other waiting patients.

Once they had the results from the test they decided to set up for minor eye surgery.  More waiting and more walking.  Thankfully it wasn't a very long procedure and soon we were on our way again.

As we were heading out I thought it might be nice to do one more burger love so we drove to the Pizza Delight in Cornwall and enjoyed the Stuffed Bessie.  I love their garlic finger buns!  The kids enjoyed the outing as well.  And this evening I was off to a homeschool meeting.  And now as my mother would say, "I'm all in but my shoelaces!"

I meant to take a picture of the burger but I completely spaced so instead, I have this lovely shot of my goofy children.

Day 119

Today we worked on a puzzle before doing school work. In the afternoon we ran some errands and watched a little bit of Little Bear.  After supper Sean and Nate and I went to the library to celebrate National Canadian Film Day.  We saw the documentary film Saving Luna.  It was about a baby killer whale who gets separated from his family in a remote Vancouver Island fjord. The locals enjoy his presence then the government steps in as well as other groups and the story unfolds from there.  After we got home and got the kids into bed, friends popped in and we played a game called Power Grid. A fun end to a full day.

Day 118

Another busy day!  We joined our homeschool group at the local Superstore to do a tour with a dietitian.  We learned that you can put a lobster to sleep by rubbing it between it's eyes as described here: How to put a lobster to sleep   What does that have to do with nutrition?  Beats me, but it's a great little tid bit of information.

Also, Special K, Cheerios, and Rice Krispies are about the worst choices for healthy cereal. You're basically just eating air, no real fiber or nutrients to speak of. However, Mini Wheats while sporting that lovely little coating of sugar are much better for you since they have the fiber and other nutrients.

In the middle of the tour I had to take Nate and Emma-Lyn for their dentist appointments.  Both kiddos are cavity free and were praised for their good dental hygiene.  That being said it does look like some orthodontic work will be in their future.

After that we met up with our group at the church for lunch and then headed home for piano lessons.  The kids got new books and enjoyed their lessons and were thrilled when our friends popped in to drop off a bike for Emma-Lyn and a trike for Levi as well as a bike for our piano teacher's daughter.

We had fresh bread and delicious bowl of creamy mushroom chicken soup for supper on this cold and snowy day.  Yes, we got more snow today--12 cms!!  And in case you're wondering we won the prestigious recognition of breaking the record of the most snow to fall in a winter in Charlottetown since they started recording it in the late 1800s. YAY?!!!

Day 117

Such a great all round day.  The kids did a great job with their school work!  I sewed up some holes on some much loved blankies and we ran some errands and this evening I had the best time out with a great group of  homeschooling mamas!  We tried some burger love and laughed and talked and even played a rousing game of ping pong!  Great way to start the week!

Day 116

Tonight we enjoyed a great time doing a burger love crawl with our good friends the Bowmans.  We hit three restaurants and enjoyed some really great beefy creations.
This is the Caribbean Heat from Outriders.  It did pack some heat!

This was the La Dolce Vita from Piattos.  This was my favourite of the night.

And here we have the Bowmans and our last selection of the evening which was the Shawarma burger from Cedars.
Such a great night chatting and laughing the night away with amazing friends and great food!!

Day 114

Bit of a different Friday for us.  We ran some errands and popped into the library for their story time before heading home to do our household chores.  We went out for supper with friends and had burger love at Reds again.  We played some Ticket to Ride and I won!  So much fun.

In the middle of the day my little man decided to grab my cold cup of coffee--cause what mom actually remembers to drink all of her coffee?  And he dumped it on himself, which meant a trip to the tub.  He loves the tub so this was just extra playtime for him.

Day 113

Today Emma-Lyn was off with Auntie Linda for a hair appointment and some shopping in town.  The boys and I baked some cookies and they played Lego and we all watched Little Bear--in french.  Tomorrow we clean, do piano lessons and start planting seeds for the garden!

I don't know what this is, but it looks pretty cool!

Day 112

And I'm just thankful it's raining and not snowing!  So nice to see more yard than snow!

Also funny to see that our yard is just about bare and our neighbours still have quite a bit..

Day 111

Today we got together with our homeschool group and did some fun earth day activities.  There was a video, some stories and then the kids got to fill some homemade paper pots with soil and plant their own seed.

Afterward my good friend April and her son came for a playdate and while the children played we sat down and made over 100 paper pots for ourselves.  I'm looking forward to getting the seeds started in the entryway and transplanting them to the garden later.

Our hands may have gotten just a little dirty rolling all that newspaper.

Day 110

Such a super busy day but fun day.  We got piano practice done and the laundry on the line before walking to the bank and the post office.  After lunch we ran in town to pick up a sander for Marko, some journals for the kids and these bad boys for me:

Can't wait to get dancing!

We had a fun playdate with the Mooneys before heading home.  Looking forward to spending time with our homeschool group tomorrow!

Day 109

Another day, another opportunity to try another burger. Today we got to share the love with our wonderful friends, the MacDonalds. The kids had a great time playing together while we enjoyed the Ciao Bella from Papa Joes. Fun unrelated fact, this is my first post done on our mobile phone .

Day 108

It's the weekend! And I am excited by just how much lawn I can actually see in my backyard!  I may even get to rake it soon!  Sean was off on an all day play date today which he thoroughly enjoyed.  We made a trip to the library to drop off books so as to lessen our immense pile at home but of course we came home with more books!  Ha! This afternoon we headed up to Souris and enjoyed another delicious burger.  It was at the Breakwater Restaurant and the view is magnificent and the food service to match.  A great date night place for sure!

Friday, April 17, 2015

Day 107

A full fun day!  House cleaning in the morning and in the afternoon we picked up some chocolate to make our first chocolate molds!  While they set we got to work putting together our little tent for poetry and tea time.  We had hot chocolate and munched on some of our little chocolates.  After supper we were off to the Montague Church of Christ for the Colours for Cancer auction.  Daddy ended up buying all the kids' paintings although there were other bids on their work.  Emma-Lyn's piece in particular seemed a hot ticket item!  Then I was off for a girl's night.  Nothing like chatting and laughing into the wee hours of the morning!

Day 106

A bit of a different day.  Started it off with cutting Levi's hair.  He seems so much more like my little boy than my little baby anymore...sniff.  Still cute as a button though!

I enjoyed my second step dance class and it looks like we may even participate in a recital in the summer!  How crazy is that??  We've learned 8 steps so far and we're having a lot of fun too!

Mr. Levi looking at a dinosaur book and growling.

His more serious pose.

Day 105

We made a trip over to the library this evening and it would seem someone thought he was small enough to fit in the doll house...

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Day 104

Kind of a different day - mostly due to the fact I didn't sleep much the night before.  My brain was completely awake and totally not interested in shutting down at all.  This morning we were supposed to meet with our homeschool group to go on a trail walk, however I couldn't imagine trying to keep up with the kids and actually make some sort of coherent small talk with the other moms at the same time.  We ended up going to the Bowman's for a playdate.  Yep, I could definetly do a playdate especially since it included some burger love.  Denise and I shared the El Rio which I've had before and we quite enjoyed it.

Day 103

It was a do your homeschool and have your lunch outside kinda day...finally.  Such a warm beautiful day!  It felt like spring may actually be here!  The kids spent most of the day outdoors which was delightful!  They are very anxious to get their bikes out and running too!

Our outdoor classroom.  The kids did their work with chalk on the driveway.  We also played a few rounds of hopscotch.

So nice to have our first picnic lunch on the deck!

Day 102

 Things that make me happy:

Being able to see the top of my garden fence...haven't sen that since the end of January.

Watching the kids play in the mud and float their boats in the little stream down our street.

Watching these two cuties make pancakes for supper.

Day 101

What an amazing day out there today.  The sun is shining and it's actually warm outside! The kids ran some errands this morning with Marko while I had some quiet time and finished my book.

This afternoon I took the kids to Colours for Cancer at the Montague Church of Christ.  This is the second year that the kids have participated and they had a great time! It was interesting to watch how their work transformed from one image to the next until their final product.  I think we made some people nervous with the amount of black the kids were using but they had a blast splatter painting fun bright colours on their black backdrop.  We're looking forward to the auction night next Friday.  100%  of the proceeds will be split between the QEH Pediatric Oncology & IWK's Hematology & Oncology Departments.

 Masterpieces in progress.

A wise artist knows that he must be a part of his work!

 And the finished products:
Emma-Lyn's is called "The Big Party"

 Nate's is called, "Black Crow."
And Sean went for, "The Mess"

Day 100

It's day 100!  And today was a pretty great day.  It was house cleaning day and we all got our chores done. I have to say the highlight of my day was when we all trouped upstairs and while I plunked myself on Nate's bed, the kiddos worked together to clean their room.  I never raised my voice, nor did I lift a finger.  In fact I fell asleep and after they finished tidying they played downstairs and let me sleep. It was a beautiful thing!

And this is my little fashionista!  We got this zebra print scarf from my folks and Emma-Lyn took to it right away and instantly started making her own fashion statements. Such a cutie!

Day 99

What a day! We got a lot done school wise and organizational wise. This evening I had the fun adventure of going out to a step dance class.  I was excited and nervous. I felt like a little kid all over again.  I was thankful that my good friend Claire also came and we had ourselves a wonderful time! We learned four different steps.  I can't wait until next week's class and we'll bring more budding dancers with us!  Now to hunt down some proper dance shoes.

I love that Isabel and Eliza stuck around to help us out and watch our form.

Day 98

Today we spent some time writing some special letters to certain special someone! Hopefully she'll receive them soon!

And some days ya just gotta do the fondue!

Day 97

Finally our homeschool group got to meet again!  No snow, no impending snow and plenty of sunshine!  It was marvelous to see all the kids again and ever so therapeutic to talk to the other adults!  This morning the children enjoyed reading their favourite books to each other. It was a great opportunity to practice public speaking. Some children just enjoyed listening to their peers and becoming acquainted with new books they might like to read themselves some day.

Afterwards got the children  settled in the audio-visual room to watch a movie and have snack while the adults worked out future outings for our group.  I'm looking forward to our new adventures.

In the afternoon the kiddos had piano lessons.  It's been awhile but they all did a great job and were happy to get back into the routine.

Day 96

I was going to just jump right back into our routine today, but the house was a little topsy turvy after all the company and fun of the weekend so we spent our time organizing, cleaning and decluttering. The bookshelves were in dire need of organizing so the kids got to work on that while I got to contend with our mountain of laundry.  We ran a few errands and looked for molds for chocolate making but didn't succeed, however a dear friend is going to donate a couple of her molds to our cause.

This evening we were off to Red's for our first burger love with friends. The MacGregors and the Peric posse tried out the East Coast Criminal.  It was another large burger and ever so tasty.  I loved the deep fried pickle!  After supper we came back to our place and while the kids watched Big Hero 6, the adults had some yummy cake for dessert and played Ticket to Ride Europe and I actually won!!

Day 95

What a whirlwind weekend!  And I loved every minute of it!  The conference on Friday was excellent and coming home to visit with my family was wonderful. The kids were so thrilled to see their best buddy Trooper again.  While my family stayed at Lane's Cottages, Trooper got to stay with us.  The kids got the responsibility of taking her on her morning walks and they did an amazing job!  Definitely an encouraging thing if and when we ever get a dog.

On Saturday we made the crazy decision to go shopping.  What a madhouse!  The parking lot at the Superstore was positively packed!  The lines to the checkouts were incredible.  But we sucked it up and carried on and managed to pick up the few things we needed.  Marko and I tried another burger love for lunch and it was an absolute hit, can't wait to try that one again!  After lunch we all sat down in the living room to play some games.  We began by playing a rousing game of charades.  The kids made up their actions while the rest of us got ideas from the Pictionary box.  It was a blast.  Then we sat down on the floor and put together our map of the world puzzle.

For supper we enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, so thankful for Gramma's and Marko's help.  After supper the kids went with Auntie Karina to walk the dog while Gramma and I hid Easter eggs.  What a hoot to see their eyes light up when they got home.  This was Levi's first egg hunt and he was a pro at it.  Although he did try to eat the egg, tinfoil and all.  The adults had fun giving the kids clues when they got stumped trying to find their last remaining eggs. Once we got the kids to bed, we all sat down to watch the Amazing Race together.  It was a blustery night that met my folks as they headed back to their place but that didn't dampen anyone's spirits.

Sunday morning the sun was shining and we all had our breakfast and headed out to church.  My family joined us there and we had a lovely time worshiping together as well.  We enjoyed having lunch at church as well.  And then they were off again for Nova Scotia.  My heart is full to bursting with joy and contentment. It was such a wonderful weekend with them.

In the afternoon Marko and I worked together to get the scalloped potatoes ready for supper at Auntie Linda's house.  We had a lovely time meeting Linda's fiance's family and enjoying yet another yummy meal.  The kids got a ride on the ski-doo and had the BEST time playing with soon to be Uncle Henk!

Now everyone is tucked into bed and it's back into the routine tomorrow. Sigh..such happy memories.

 Sitting around our completed map.

My crazy kids at their table.

And the rest of the crazy people at their table.

Day 94

After telling my folks all about the tasty burgers available during the month of April, Marko and I decided to share one for lunch.

This is the El Rio from the Lady's Slipper Cafe and it is AMAZING!!  So very tasty!  I didn't want the burger to end it was that good and Marko called the restaurant to say how much he enjoyed it.  We may live in a province that is still covered in snow and expecting more but we have one of the tastiest reasons to go out and enjoy the month of April!
