Day 151

Kind of an off day here.  Levi was crabby, teary and quite clingy.  We made it to the first service this morning but by snack time the boy was just beside himself so he and I came home.  He continued to be fairly clingy and easily frustrated throughout the afternoon.  I'm thinking this may be a reaction to his shots last Tuesday and hopefully he'll be back to his happy little self soon.

It was also a fairly wet and dreary day which didn't improve moods much.  I did happen to find my husband's copy of The Count of Monte Cristo and I'm devouring each and every page.  I also took 20 minutes to do a sketch-an activity I might try doing on a more regular basis.  It was fun and satisfying.  The original photo is from a magazine called Our Canada, Our Country, Our Stories.  And the photographer is David Sturhahn.

Day 150

This morning we went to a friend's yard sale and I was super excited to find these items!

We also found a nice pair of sandals for Nate. This afternoon I took the big kids to the beach while Marko stayed home to finish his sermon.  The kids had so much fun!  I was shocked when they actually went in the water. I dipped my toes in but quickly ran back up onto the warm inviting sand.
Tonight it's girls night and we'll be enjoying a bonfire together!

Day 149

Just a little list of things that I love:
I love that weather is definitely warming up!
I love seeing the leaves grow on the trees.
I love listening to the birds in the morning.
I love watching my kids play and enjoy being outdoors.
I love spending time with my family.
I love a good bonfire like the one we had tonight
And I love this man right here:
And I love that my eldest son took this shot and was careful to clear the space and take a really nice picture.

Day 148

Did not want to get out of bed this morning.  I was so tired and just couldn't figure out how we would get our school work done.  So we modified the day.  We put on a documentary about caves and afterwards the children drew a picture about something they found interesting about caves. After lunch we baked chocolate chip cookies and enjoyed some poetry and tea time.

Day 147

Just had to hit the beach this morning!  It was a great way to start the day.  The kids were super thrilled to be back at their home away from home.  The water was pretty cold but they had fun none the less and got plenty dirty while they were at it!

When we got home I hosed them down and put Levi down for his nap.  The kids and I worked on school stuff on the deck--I could get used to doing all our stuff outside if this weather holds up!  We had a late lunch and then piano lessons in the afternoon.  We took out the baby pool and the kids had an amazing time splashing like crazy!

 The BEACH!!

He thought it was so funny to watch the kids run and then jump into the pool.  He wasn't quite as cool with it when the splashes got him wet at first but he got used to it.

 Summertime fun!

Day 146

Crazy busy day so just a quick recap.  We went to a friend's place for our homeschool outing this morning.  The kids were enthralled with the treat of holding little chicks.  We stayed for lunch and a movie before heading home.  No sooner were we home then Levi and I had to leave again for his 18 month check up.  The boy weighs 31 pounds now and is 33 inches long.  Grammie Peric babysat while we were out and once we got back, I got the other kids back into the car and we were off to Roma to harvest some seaweed.  On our way home we popped in to visit friends for an hour.

Marko was home by the time we got there so we quickly threw some hotdogs on the BBQ for the kids and got ready to head out for our date tonight.  Grammie Peric came once again to babysit and we headed into Charlottetown.  We enjoyed the best pizza ever at Piattos.  I love that place!  We did a little shopping and caught the late showing of the Avenger movie.  Looking forward to a quieter day at home tomorrow.

Day 145

What a DAY!!  It was actually hot outside!

We began the day with some nature study.  We have a pair of blue jays building their nest in one of our pine trees.  We have a nice view from the deck.  Nate and I also managed to get the attention of a couple of yellow warblers to come down to the maple tree to check us out.   We worked on a creative project next.  The kids made their own dry erase boards.  It's something they can use outside and I think will do nicely especially over the summer months.  We do plan to take a break from most of our studies but some things will carry on through the summer.  We made their little boards out of bristol board and mactac.  They decorated the bristol board then covered them in mactac and clipped them to their clip boards. Today we used their newly minted boards to review our spelling lists.

After quiet time this afternoon it was time to finally pull out the hose and the sprinkler.  The kids were so thrilled.  They squealed and hollered and had themselves quite the time.  Then they made up obstacle races for each other.  They shall sleep well tonight

This evening we had supper on the deck and afterwards Levi got to play on the trampoline by himself.  He was mighty pleased.  Once Levi went down for the night we got our first bonfire of the season going.  And much to the delight of the children we pulled out the fixin's for S'mores.  A great way to finish a very summer like day.

 Splashing through.

Love Emma-Lyn's expression!

One very happy little guy!

Day 144

Today was extra special since we got to spend the afternoon with our friends, Mike and Nancy and Nancy's folks and we went to see the RCMP musical ride!  The kids loved it.  I vaguely remember seeing it in Ontario when I was little.  I was very happy to see it again! Afterwards we enjoyed a little snack at Gillis'.  A perfect ending to wonderful afternoon.

Levi inspecting the officers.  They met with his approval.

All set to enter the ring.

So amazing to watch!

Day 143

Cause sometimes it's nice to find a little treat for me...
I love anything hazelnut flavoured and even better it's decaf so I won't be up all night thinking about everything!

Day 142

What a fun day.  We started out by getting our house cleaning done.  There were some rough spots but we got through them and then I told the kids to eat their lunch quickly because I had a surprise for them.  They were so excited and they guessed and guessed but I wouldn't tell them.  We ended up in Charlottetown at the McDonalds for a birthday party.  They were thrilled!  The kids loved hanging out with their friends and enjoying some birthday cupcakes too.  I enjoyed hanging out with friends I don't get to see as often as I like and I made a new friend.  Love getting to know new people, helps to have a cute toddler that helps himself to other people's food! I was embarrassed but the other mom was fantastic and we hit it off.  While we were there I gave each of the kiddos a dollar and Nate spent his on one of the games while the other two saved theirs to buy something at the dollarstore.  Emma-Lyn picked out a cute little Winnie the Pooh diary and Sean found a neat mini bowling game.

Such a lovely day!

Day 141

So nice to have another gorgeous day to enjoy. We did our school stuff outside and had lunch on the deck and the kids jumped themselves silly on the trampoline.  And I took some time to just admire new growth around our yard.

Day 140

It was a great get things done kinda day.  I got through the mountains of laundry and the kids got their stuff put away and I even  managed to sort Levi's clothes.  We got through our school stuff and Sean enjoyed trying out his volcano experiment. We got a loaf of bread made and had yummy sandwiches for lunch.  In the afternoon we worked together on the garden.  We spread out the newspaper and piled compost and soil on top. Then it was back inside for some much deserved chocolate milkshakes. Everyone practiced their piano pieces and played a game on the Wii.  It was left overs for supper which made things easy for me and once dinner chores were done, the kids played on the trampoline until it was time to come in.

This might have been more impressive if we actually had red food colouring to put in it.

The nice thing is, we can redo most of the experiments again and again!

Day 139

Today we enjoyed a session on service dogs with our homeschool group.  The kids enjoyed the short presentation and getting to meet the dog.  Afterwards we headed down to the waterfront to enjoy some outdoor play and more socializing.

We had piano lessons and a fun playdate in the afternoon.  The kids jumped on the trampoline, played Lego in the living room and ran about while the moms got to relax and chat on the deck.  And just before everyone packed up to go home, Sean pulled out on his science experiments and the kids worked together to make a fruit battery.  They were pretty thrilled to get it to work.

Day 138

Happy Victoria Day!  We enjoyed a lovely time at Jennie and Troy's with their family.  The kids crafted, played Bocce ball and performed gymnastic feats.  And we all stuffed ourselves silly with yummy food!

In the evening we enjoyed a visit with Grammie Peric.  The kids were very delighted to see her again after her time away in Ottawa.

 The crafting centre.
 Bocce ball.
 Levi and Jennie.
Nate showing off his bridge abilities.

And a little lady bug I found.

Day 137

Not quite as sun shiny and warm as yesterday but still a really nice day.  We went to church this morning and after lunch Emma-Lyn and I went on our date to Gillis's Drive In and we may have indulged in WAY TOO MANY onion rings! Marko played soccer with Sean and we all trucked over to Cardigan to play at the park.  We watched some How It's Made before bed time and now the kiddos are in bed and Marko is off to games night again...The man loves to play Risk! And I have a book and some iced tea that are calling my name.

 Climbing the ropes.

And we even played on the teeter totter too!

My sweet sunshine girl!

Day 136

Another beautiful day!  It was a day to get things done.  Marko got the screen door installed, we put up the swings and even got the trampoline back up!  The kids were ever so thrilled and ever so tuckered out this evening.  It was fun to watch them jump and laugh and enjoy being outside.

Day 135

At one point today the temperature was reading 24 degrees today!  It was heavenly!  We got our butts in gear this morning and got the house cleaned before piling in the car to meet friends at Kings Castle.  We made a little detour at Buffalo Land when we saw the herd grazing on the hill and stopped in to see them.  Baby buffaloes are super cute!  We had a wonderful time at Kings Castle.  The kids played and played and played.  And we even got our hoops out and hooped it up a bit.  My friend Simone is a phenomenal hooper!

Once we were finally able to pull ourselves away from all the fun we headed home so Levi could have his much needed nap and I cleaned out the car. That car was an utter stinking much gravel and wrappers and mittens and hats and all sorts of odds and ends.  Feels great to have it cleaned up just in time for sand season!

Tonight Marko is out at games night with the boys and I'm going to pour myself a cup of tea and curl up with a book. Lovin' it!

 Mr. Super Sweetie!

 My climbing girl!
And Simone, hooper extraordinaire!

Day 134

What an AMAZING day! Not only was the sun out--it was warm!! And I am making good on my promise to go out and enjoy each and every wonderfully warm day. We did our school stuff, hung the laundry on the line and ate lunch on the deck.  It was delightful!  After quiet time we ran some errands and popped over to one of our favourite haunts--Knox's Falls and Dam. The kids just love this place. We brought some bubbles and had a lovely time chasing them about and tossing sticks and stones in the water.  Back at home, Sean set to work preparing a veggie tray while I got our hot chocolate ready for our poetry time.  We set out the picnic blanket and enjoyed the late afternoon sun as we listened to some new poems as well as some old favourites.  After supper I headed to my dance class and had such a fun time.  So thankful for a great instructor and lovely friends with which to share this exciting experience.
The three amigos.  The water was overflowing so I kept Levi strapped into his stroller--much to his chagrin!

Blowing bubbles before poetry time.

The whole gang ready for some fun.

Day 133

It was a fairly run of the mill kinda day around here today.  We got our homeschool stuff done, the kids played we made a run to the library and enjoyed seeing the sun come out again.  Sean wrote his first Haiku today so I think tomorrow we may enjoy some poetry and tea time.

I received this lovely little plant from my secret sister for Mother's Day. This is a Celosia or Cockscomb plant.  I love the colour!

Day 132

We went on a tour of our local fire department this morning with our homeschool group.  It was a great field trip.  The kids really enjoyed it and learned a lot.  I was very impressed by the professionalism of our volunteer fire fighters.

Day 131

It was back to the books this morning and everyone seemed to be a little slow getting started.  I find hard to get motivated after a fun and busy weekend.  I know we got a fair amount accomplished but I still feel like I forgot to do a lot.  And one of the things I forgot, was to take a picture through the day.  So this evening I drew a little picture and photographed that.  It'll just have to do.
