Day 304

Today we did a run into Charlottetown to pick up a math book for Sean and a couple other errands before heading home for lunch.  Marko and I enjoyed one last porktoberfest sandwich from the Juice Box and it was ever so yummy.

This afternoon we enjoyed a lovely time with our church family.  The kids played games and had so much fun.  At one point the kids were doing a treasure hunt and all the kids were nuts for that...except Levi.  He was totally taken with the different rigs that were in the yard.  He went to each one and tried it out and never once really bothered with the whole treasure hunt.  It was potluck for supper and there was so much yummy food.  After supper I took the kids home and left them with our wonderful friend June.  I headed back to our friend's house and the adults had some time to play games.  It was a lovely way to spend the day.

Day 303

Another blustery day!  The kids and I worked quickly at getting the house clean so we could go to the Nearly New and to the library.  Levi is in need of some pants and I managed to pick up two nice pairs of slacks and the kiddos enjoyed their suckers from the clerk.

Then we headed over to the library to drop off some videos and read some books.  We were all engrossed in our books when the librarian let us know that she was closing up for lunch.  We quickly put down our books and headed out.  And just as we were out the doors, Emma-Lyn exclaims, "Mom, Levi!!" Oh yeah, probably would be a good idea to bring him home.  I sure am getting good at this parenting thing!!

After lunch Sean made brownies and I tackled my bedroom.  It was time to clean up and declutter.  And as I pulled things out and either put them in the donations bag or the garbage I came across this:
I took Taekwondo when I went to Mount Allison University.  Such great memories.  Emma-Lyn asked me to put it on and surprise the boys.  The boys loved it!  And insisted I show them some moves.  The mind grows dim over the years but I still remember some punches and kicks and they thought it was amazing.  And of course, they then proceeded to try out their own versions on each other.  Another parenting win!

While it was windy, it was still a gorgeous day out there and the kids asked to go to the beach. I love the beach and was all for it.  The wind pretty much took your breath away.  Very invigorating!  Levi had fallen asleep on the way over so we let him sleep while we played on the beach.  We weren't gone very long as it was desperately cold!

Once we were home again it was time for hot chocolate and a movie. It was homemade pizza for supper which was delightful.  Sadly we burnt our last attempt at homemade pizza last night but this one more than made up for that faux pas!

Now the kiddos are in bed and it's time to call a dear friend in Quebec and catch up on her goings on.

Day 302

She was some sorta windy out there today! We had a great homeschool morning until Levi kept pestering so we ducked into my bedroom to get work done and that worked until Levi found us..

The door was shut so he couldn't get in.  But he didn't let that dampen his spirits.  He searched in the handy drawers in the hallway until he found what he was looking for.  The lad took the crowbar and banged the hallway walls with it...I was ever so pleased.  The crowbar was in the drawer from our bathroom renos.  Note to self, must find better places to stash things!

After we got our work done we enjoyed a lovely playdate at our friend Janet's house.  They have a new little bunny and the kids enjoyed patting her and playing with their friends. This evening we had Awana. I love being a leader, the kids are so sweet and the games are fantastic!  I can mark off my cardio workout after that.  Then once the kids were in bed it was time to relax and colour. Such a great way to unwind.

Day 301

It was a perfect day to get all our outdoor stuff packed away in the garage.  First I went in and organized the garage and then we all worked on putting away the trampoline, the deck furniture, the swings and the BBQ.  I was very impressed with how well the kids and I worked together.  They were great problem solvers too.  While we were taking down the swings one of them wouldn't come down and I was ready to just leave it when Emma-Lyn suggested grease.  Sean ran in the house and brought out the WD-40.  He sprayed it and voila I could get it down.

And as a reward for all their efforts they got to watch some Magic School Bus. I got to sit down and relax with a chai latte.  In the afternoon the kids enjoyed a playdate with Sean's buddy Austin.  They played on the Wii, went for a walk and set up an obstacle course for a remote control car.  While they played I made fudge for this evening's homeschool meeting.Yum!

Day 300

A great day of homeschooling.  While Nate was writing his letters he noticed that the K looked like a person with their hands up which lead to all of us trying to make different body letters.  Which gave me my idea for today's photo: Shadow letters.  Emma-Lyn humoured me and was a wonderful little model and we had a great time doing this. Can you read our word? I love it because it's Emma-Lyn's middle name, my maiden name and sometimes it's all you've got left to hold onto.

Day 299

This morning we went to Roma for a beautiful nature walk.  I love this place, it's beautiful any time of year.  The children had a grand time picking up leaves and other odds and ends for our art project this afternoon.  When we got home we had hot chocolate and finished reading The Hobbit.

This afternoon we'll work on our art project and do an assignment with pumpkin seeds.

 Love the colours.

 Such a breathtaking place.

And of course, if there is something to climb you know my kids will climb it.

Day 298

Another lovely Sunday filled with church, quiet time, good meals and a quick chance for some artwork.  As Marko headed out to evening service with the big kids I realized that I didn't have a picture for today's post so I got out my paints and a small canvas and went for it.

Day 297

A fun day for all!  The kids were so thrilled to have their friends join them for breakfast this morning!  We enjoyed our french toast and then the kids were back to playing Lego before the MacDonalds had to head back home.

This afternoon while Marko worked on his sermon and Levi napped, the kids and I met Jennie in town and did some shopping and visited for a bit.  We also popped in to visit with the Beukerts.  We enjoyed helping out with their church outreach and were very thankful for some tasty pizza for our efforts.  Such a lovely family with which to share an afternoon.

Mr. Levi was quite pleased when his big brother shared his watermelon lollipop with him!

Day 296

Well, today started on an interesting note.  We were knee deep in our cleaning duties when Emma-Lyn came running into the kitchen. She was fairly excited and told me that Levi was playing in the bathroom. Up I trudge to the bathroom. And would you believe the little lad had managed to take all our tooth brushes and tooth paste and dump them into the toilet. Lovely. You'll be happy to note that I did not take a photo of my toilet bowl stuffed full of dental hygiene implements because we ended the day on a high note. Our great friends the MacDonalds have come for a sleepover.  We had hamburgers, chips and salad for supper and while the kids watched a movie the adults played a game.  Fun times indeed!

Day 295

After a full day of the homeschooling thing and then the fun of Awana tonight, it was time for some fun and games with great friends! Always fun times with Mitch and Nina!

Day 294

Today we baked cookies and delivered them to a dear elderly neighbour.  The kids and I were delighted to take the time to visit and share our little basket of goodies.  We came home for some music appreciation time provided by some Piano Guys videos. Now we're doing quiet time and we'll just have to see what this afternoon brings.  I'm looking forward to our homeschool meeting tonight.

Day 293

Today it was a homeschool morning with a dash of socializing fun in the afternoon.

And this is my current book that I am reading and enjoying.

Monday, October 19, 2015

Day 292

We woke up to snow on the ground this morning.  The kids went nuts! It was a mad dash to finish breakfast and get outside to play.  Emma-Lyn made a gigantic snowball which the boys put in the wagon and then proceeded to smash it.  Levi couldn't wait to get out and taste test the snow.

Day 291

Just a shot of my homeschool prep. In case you were ever wondering this is generally what I do to get prepared for the coming week.  I get all my books out on the kitchen table and pull the kids' bins over as well.  First I go through their past week's work and record it in their folders.  Then I go through each of their subjects and write down their assignments for the week. I make photocopies of what I need and stick them in my clipboard and we're set for another week.  Nothing too fancy or complex and so far it's working with minor tweaks here and there as we go.  For instance, I had history as a subject that we would cover once a week, now we do history each day.  After quiet time we read a section of the book The Story of Canada and the kids do a picture narration. Here's to another week in our homeschool adventure.

Day 290

I very much enjoyed my solo visit with my fam jam.  We had a delightful time catching up and just being us. Loved it.  And we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day than today.  The sun was shining and the fall colours were glorious.  We enjoyed a lovely walk at Trenton park.  What a gem!  Can't wait to take the kids there next Thanksgiving!

For our meals we enjoyed suppers that Marko wouldn't like, such as seafood chowder and borecole with sausages.  Marko doesn't like seafood and can't stand the smell of kale cooking--borecole is a dutch dish of cooked kale and mashed potatoes with a side of dill pickles.  I love it and it's a great fall comfort food.

And while I was away, the kids and Marko had things to eat that I wouldn't like such as a peanut butter cookie dough smash blizzard from Dairy Queen and a java chip frappuccino from Starbucks.  I love peanut butter and I love chocolate, but I cannot stand the two of them together.

While it was grand to go away it was ever so nice to come home to my own little fam jam.  This is my circus and they are my monkeys and I love them to bits!

And now for pictures of fall foliage at Trenton Park:

Day 289

Look who I got to surprise today!!  So much fun!  My mom and sister and I hatched this plan to surprise dad with a little visit and I'm pretty sure the man was dumbfounded.  The look on his face was priceless!  So glad to have this time to spend with my fam jam.  Dad is doing GREAT!  Thanks so much Denise for looking after my kiddos while I ran off to the boat. We had seafood chowder for supper and soon it will be time for strawberry favourite!!

Day 288

It was AWANA night tonight!  The kids and I are really enjoying the AWANA program.  They look forward to it all week.  They spend the week memorizing their scripture verses and then share them with their leaders on Thursday night.  They get to play games and then enjoy some singing and a message.  Nate and Emma-Lyn have earned their vests and can now work on their badges.  Sean is still working on earning his special shirt.  I love being an AWANA leader!

Day 287

It was a stay at home and get things done kind of day which was great.  We worked on our homeschool stuff and puttered around the house doing chores. After quiet time we read the Story of Canada and the children drew pictures for their narration.  Then it was practice time.  The boys took turns practicing piano and Emma-Lyn and I practiced step dance.  Levi decided he wanted to practice bouncing so out to the trampoline we went.  It was such a lovely afternoon!

I worked on reorganizing one of  our bookshelves which has resulted in a large pile of "to donate" books as well as books that need homes on other book shelves.  I'll need to go through the rest of my shelves to get this all finished.  In the midst of that I decided it would be good to finally get some primer up on the bathroom walls!!  So excited!  It's pretty bright in there now, but at least you can't see so much purple, mint green and pink anymore!!

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Day 286

It was a perfect morning to have our first poetry and tea time.  We went to the library first to pick up some new poetry books and we stopped at the Superstore for a new fun drink.  The kids really enjoyed their sparkling watermelon lemon juice.  After our tea time we practiced some numbers and letters and Sean read one of our Shakespeare for kids books.

We had a lovely visit with another homeschooling mom and her kiddos and then Sean and Nate had their piano lessons. We got a few chores done before supper and then we were off to step dance lessons and curling registration.  Now Sean and Emma-Lyn are with Marko at prayer meeting, Levi is in bed and Nate and I are enjoying some Mighty Machines.

Day 285

 Happy Thanksgiving!

What a glorious day.  We slept in a ridiculous amount.  Thank you children for doing so well and having mercy on mommy and daddy this morning.  Even with our late rising Marko was able to change the furnace filter and I went through everyone's clothes and took out the summer stuff.

Then we were off to Jennie and Troy's for Thanksgiving dinner.  What a feast!  And such great company. Most of Jennie's siblings and their children were there along with some of Troy's relatives as well. We all had a wonderful time.  The kids had a blast and were tickled pink when Troy's Aunt Brenda gave each of them a little treat bag.

On our way home I took some pictures of the fall colours and we decided to stop at the playground.  No one was particularly hungry after our large dinner.  We had crackers, cheese, grapes and bananas and raisin bread toast for supper. It was delightful!

Usually we'd just be getting back from Nova Scotia right about now so I'm missing my folks but thankful to know that dad is doing well and they enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving as well.

 Sweet little Monica.

 Kimmy and Monica.
Savana, such a little sweet heart.

 Just love the fall colours!

 Playing at the park.

Day 284

Twelve years ago I married a wonderful man.

He's quiet and I'm loud.  He's the voice of reason and I'm the voice of crazy. I'm known for my laughter, he's known for his wisdom. This life is filled with times of joy and sorrow and I couldn't imagine going through any of those times with anyone else but him.  We're not perfect people living a perfect lifestyle.  We're just two ordinary people loving each other and loving Jesus and walking this journey together.

To Marko, I love you so much and I am so blessed by the love you have for me each day.  You help me up when I fall down.  You love our children so dearly even when they're jumping on your last nerve. I love how much you love your Saviour and share with others about Him and His word.

To Colleen, I thank you from my heart for being the amazing woman and mom that you have been and continue to be.  You have prayed over Marko and molded him from a little boy to this amazing man I'm married to.  Thank you.

To Linda, thank you so much for being a wonderful sister to Marko.  I'm sure you've taught him many things about being sensitive to a girl's thoughts and needs.

To Ratko, you may feel that you weren't there as much as a dad and would have liked to be more.  I'm still thankful for the great memories Marko has of being with you.

To Dona, thank you for being a loving stepmother and caring for Marko across the distance.  It has been lovely to get to know you better each time you visit.

To all of Marko's long time and short time friends, thank you.

You see, we don't make ourselves on our own.  If we think about it, there is a whole swath of people helping us to become who we are.

Day 283

Denise and I were up and at 'em early this morning to set up our table at the Mom to Mom sale.  We were a little underwhelmed at the fruits of our labour but we did learn a lot and had a lot of fun working together.  After packing up what we had left it was time for a little Starbucks pick me up.  I love the caramel macchiato!

I think we'll try the 70 mile yard sale next year!

Day 282

Today we got the house cleaned and then I worked on organizing all our stuff for the Mom to Mom sale tomorrow in Charlottetown.  And now I'm all in but my shoelaces!  Have an early start tomorrow so now it's time for hot chocolate and Bible study with my hubby.

Day 281

A beautiful day for a tour of Orwell Village.  We enjoyed making candles, watching the blacksmith make a hook, a lovely wagon ride and socializing with our extended group of homeschool friends.
This place is just so beautiful.  There is a gorgeous view every way you turn!

This little goat was quite the ham and loved all the attention.

Mr. Ben looking very much the part.

The blacksmith hard at work.

After our time at Orwell we made a quick dash out to see the MacGregors one last time before they head back to Quebec tomorrow.  I just had to have a picture of me and Jackie.  She is one of my besties and I just love the time we spend together. It's hard to say good-bye but at least we've made plans to chat throughout the coming months.

Jackie, I'll be praying for you and your family.  You are such a beautiful friend and I am so thankful to have you in my life.  May God richly bless you and your family.  Big Hugs!!

Day 280

Life sure can get crazy by times. And it can be stressful to the point of forgetting which way is up.  It is good then, to be able to call on a wonderful friend.  She was just the person to dust me off, pick me up and point me in the right direction again.

Things aren't always unicorns and rainbows in this homeschool lifestyle we've chosen and I certainly needed to hear everything my dear friend had to say. Of all the great advice she gave me this evening I was most blessed by her directing me to this psalm.  So much encouragement and love in those words.  Everything I desperately needed to hear.
Thank you so much Gertrude, you have richly blessed me by your friendship!

Day 279

A beautiful day for a hike in the woods with a couple of our homeschool friends. While we did have a lovely time I realized that I am feeling wildly frazzled most of the time these days.  I think we have too much going on and need to step back a bit.  So, for now we're taking a break from our weekly outings with our homeschool group.  We'll miss our time with all our friends but I feel that we really need to regroup and get grounded in our regular homeschool days.

This evening we took Emma-Lyn to her first step-dance class.  She did really well and enjoyed it!  It may seem funny for me to mention that we're taking out our homeschool group time and then in the next breath share about how Emma-Lyn is taking step-dance lessons. Our homeschool group meets through the day which kinda throws the whole day off for us.  And step-dance is in the evening so we can accommodate for that after our regular school stuff is done.  Sean will be taking up curling again soon and all three big kids will be starting AWANA this Thursday.  Things will be busy but hopefully not hectic.

A feather Sean found in the forest.  Levi and I got another little bird treat.  This time we managed to get five or six chickadees to come check us out.  They were so close we could hear their wings flutter as they flew around us.
Love the peacefulness of the woods.

Emma-Lyn learning how to shuffle step.

Emma-Lyn and her dance teacher, Jordan.  He was my teacher last year.
