Date Night

We had a pretty relaxed day here today.  The kids and I read and played games in the morning and then we had piano lessons/ a play date in the afternoon.  It was lovely!

And this evening we kicked off the long weekend with a little date night!
Here we are enjoying our ice cream!  Also I'm sporting a very toothy smile while Marko is sporting some impressive nostrils!

A Busy Day

This morning I took the kids to the reading club at the library.  They enjoyed listening to stories and then planting some grass seed in a cup.  They drew faces on the cups and when the grass grows it will look like hair.

When we got home I finished up planting the garden.  We have zucchini, squash and beans in the backyard and tomatoes in the front and side gardens. And I am so tired now!

In the afternoon we headed over to Janet's to check out her new chicks and jut enjoy the beautiful view!  The kids played and swam in their pool before it was time to head home for supper.

Such a great day!

Janet's chickens even seem to pose for photos!

 Such cute baby chicks!

Painting

Today's project: Painting the back fence.

Our back garden gets a fair amount of shade.  The raised bed on the left spends most of the day in the shade.  We're hoping that with the white fence it will help to reflect the sunlight. Off to get some plants tomorrow.

Time For a Haircut

It was a bit of a slow start to our day today...A weekend away will do that to a person!  I must say that we are quite enjoying our unschooling summer thus far.  The kids seem to be really into their books because when I ask them to share with daddy what they read, they all seem to have plenty to say.

This afternoon after some fun in the pool I decided it was finally time to cut Levi's hair.  I grabbed a bowl of chocolate chips and plunked him down in a kitchen chair out on the deck and got to work.  He was quite happy to munch on the chocolate while I quickly snipped at his hair.

Camp!

What an amazing weekend!  It was just such a delight from start to finish!

It was so refreshing and encouraging to worship God and fellowship with all the ladies at Emmanuel Bible Camp.  Our speakers were fantastic!  They challenged us and encouraged us with their messages.  We enjoyed games and free time at the pool.  The pool was sooo relaxing...except for when my friend Carolyn and I decided to race each other doing the backstroke.  Then we had to see how many tricks we could do, like forward flips and handstands! Felt just like a kid at camp!

I enjoyed sharing a couple of book recommendations with the ladies and participating in a little skit. And I may have earned myself yet another nickname: Moose--seems the Blue Moose Call was a hit!

I had to leave right at lunch time to make it into town for Emma-Lyn's and my dance recital.  Emma-Lyn did a great job along with all the other participants--The program ran just about two hours!  I'm pleased that the boys did a great job watching and encouraging Emma-Lyn.  And the adult class and I had a BLAST!   A great way to finish off the weekend.

Now for some scenic shots from Emmanuel Bible Camp:

I happened to wake up at 5:30 in the morning and the mist on the lake was so inviting for a photo op!

Weekend Away!

If I was more organized I would have posts written and ready to go over the weekend while I'm away...As it turns out I am not that organized and I'm still throwing things together as I head out in half an hour.

I am so very much looking forward to this ladies retreat--gonna be a great time with amazing ladies!

Will post more when I'm back! Have a great weekend everyone!!

Enjoying the Sunshine

The kids are really soaking up all the sunshine they can get.  This afternoon we had a read aloud picnic on the driveway as the kids dried off and warmed up from playing in the pool.

Pool Fun!

Today's big adventure was putting up the pool.  The kids were ever so pumped!  We got it up in the morning and filled it and then came back out around three in the afternoon.  The water was still a wee bit cold but the kids were excited and determined!

Nate was in there pretty quick!

 "Just a little chilly..."

Sean: "It's cold, it's cold...it's ever so cold!"

Emma-Lyn: "It is wildly cold in here but I'm going to make it work!"

 Gotta SPLASH!
 My little nutters...

And yeah, it may have been a titch cold in there...

Sandspit!

What a glorious day!!  The big kids and I enjoyed a visit to Sandspit while Levi enjoyed a visit with the Bowmans.

It was a wonderfully warm and sunny day. The kids were very excited to find their friends at the park and ran off gleefully. There wasn't much of a crowd and very few lines to wait in.  I enjoyed chatting with friends and watching the kids so thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Cleaning and Decluttering

It was just one of those days where I felt like I was just chasing my own tail all day.  I would start one project only to get sidetracked by another project.  Eventually I would find my way back to my original project but not before finding several other things to do in the meantime.  And at the end of the day it's hard to see if it was all that productive.

I did manage to do this:
It may not look like much, but I went through each shelf and purged the books that weren't being used.

I also spent time helping Emma-Lyn clean her room.  It seems my dear daughter has a propensity for the messy side of life.  I couldn't help but think about the state of my room when I was a kid.  My mom even bought me a poster that read, "It's my mess and I love it!"

Instead of having everything strewn about the room like I did, Emma-Lyn had things--LOTS of things shoved under her bed and in her closet.  We first had to intensify the mess by pulling it all out in the open before we could start cleaning it up.  We did get through it and now everything is in it's place.  We'll see how long that lasts!

Happy Father's Day!

What a beautiful yet wildly windy day it was today!

Marko preached this morning and we had his mom come and join us for lunch.  We thought about eating out on the deck but we were afraid the wind might take off with the big umbrella so we stayed inside.

Later in the afternoon, Marko and I enjoyed sitting in the backyard as the kids puttered about.  We hadn't really made any solid plans for the day so we quickly came up with a fun itinerary for the rest of our afternoon and evening.

Marko went for a quick bike ride with the big kids while Levi napped and I continued to enjoy the warmth and quiet of the backyard.
The team heading out for their ride.

Then we pulled out the sprinkler for some water fun.  The kids were super pumped for that!

So happy to have a warm enough day to play with water again!

After our sprinkler fun, we got everyone dried off and ready to head down to the waterfront to play.  The big kids rode their bikes while I walked and daddy and Levi took the van.  Daddy and Levi had a secret mission the others didn't know about.  They were picking up pizza and garlic fingers for supper!

The kids were sooo thrilled!  It was a bit of an adventure trying to have a civilized meal as the wind was desperate to upset all our plates of food and send half full cups flying off the picnic table. We did manage to enjoy our meal before packing everything up and heading over to What's the Scoop for an ice cream dessert.

So windy--everyone had to hold their plates as they ate!

 Daddy and his gift.

Once we finished off our dessert we headed home and tidied up the house before the kids headed out for some more biking around the block.  They should sleep like logs tonight!

A Crazy Whrilwind Visit

My folks came to visit today and it turned into a bit of a fiasco.  It started before they even managed to get on the boat.  Their car was acting up but they made on the boat and they made it all the way to the Whim road before the car broke down.  Luckily for them they landed in the yard of mechanic.  He was on his way out for an appointment but promised to work on the car when he got back.

We managed a quick but somewhat stressful visit until they heard back from the mechanic that he had fixed the problem and should be able to get back home without any problem.  My folks decided they had had enough adventure for one visit and headed home early.  Thankfully they did manage to make it home without any further car issues.

Emma-Lyn and I had a nice date at What's the Scoop and we enjoyed walking through the nearby greenhouse and picking out our favourite flowers.

Marko and I planted some tomatoes and then we all went for a walk as a family through the neighbourhood to pick up some lattice a friend had offered to us.

On our way there as we were walking past a trailer with a big white truck cab sitting in the driveway, an elderly lady popped out and called to us.  She mentioned that someone she knew, knew us.  Marko and I were kinda dumbfounded and stood and just kinda stared at the lady.  She called out the name Jonathan Roach and we both still stood mystified at why this lady was calling to us.  Then she said, "He knows your names--he knows who you are--you're Laura aren't you?"  And finally I clued in as I looked at the truck cab again and realized this was a friend from way back when and he had been trucking out west for some time.  We immediately went right over and enjoyed a lovely chat with Jonathan and his Grandmother.  Funny how things go sometimes!

And tonight I enjoyed a lovely time out with the girls.

Lovely purple lupins in Karen's yard.

A Victorian Tea Time

Today we celebrated the official end of the school year with our wonderful friends the Bueckerts by having a little tea party.  We came dressed for the occasion and we all enjoyed such a wonderful day together!

The kids didn't stay in their Sunday best for long since the backyard was calling their name to come and play.  We had lunch and the kids worked on making the best paper airplane.  Then they held airplane races and Emma-Lyn's plane won!  We had a snack of iced tea, rice pudding and scones. Then the kids got creative with a fun fingerprint set.

It was such a fun day of play and creativity!  A great way to begin the summer!

A pretty fine looking group!

Grammie Peric is Home!

And the kids are ecstatic! They were so happy to have Grammie home!  They gave her lots of hugs and spent lots of time cuddling on the couch together!

Is Summer Really Around the Corner?

The weather has been so drizzly and chilly it hardly seems like the end of spring could be near.  It feels much more like fall!  Blah!

And the kids are getting crazier all the time.  They took turns giving each other piggy backs all the while laughing their heads off.  By the end of it Sean had Emma-Lyn and Nate on his back!

So, please Mr. Sun, please come back!!

My current crochet project--Sean's blanket.

Good Books

It was a bit of a mish mash of doing this and that this morning. There was Lego at the kitchen table, blocks in the living room and Emma-Lyn and I stole away to my bedroom to do some quiet reading time together.  I'm so proud of how well she read.  And even when she got stumped she didn't lose her cool, she just kept working until she got it right!

I have a confession--Sometimes I have overdue books that have somehow lost their way in our home and our wonderful local librarian will buy me time by renewing said book(s).  Well, not so at the library in Charlottetown which I found out over the weekend.  Thus I was that much more motivated to find the M.I.A books. This morning Victory was mine!!

I found the illusive books stuck under our pull out couch. One book had managed to get wedged between one of the bars and the mattress. How this actually happens--I have no idea.  This meant it was indeed time for another jaunt to the library where I found this little gem:

I'm looking forward to reading it for our poetry and tea times.

Bubble Fun!

Today was our last official homeschool group event.  We were almost going to have to miss it as Marko had laser eye surgery booked this morning.  Thankfully our good friend Claire was able to watch the kids and take them all to the church.  Marko's surgery went well and we came home and he went to rest while I headed down to the church to catch up with the group.

They spent their morning playing games and we enjoyed a potluck lunch.  After lunch we had poetry time which was then followed up with playtime down at the waterfront.  The kids really enjoyed playing with bubbles together!

So much joy!

Kinda Crazy Adventure Sunday

It started out as a fairly regular Sunday, what with church and Sunday school and such but that all changed when my lovely friend Kara called.  She was heading into town and wanted to know if I'd like to come too.

Sounded good to me, so I quickly grabbed my purse and jacket and off we went.  We went to various places picking up items for upcoming ministry events. It was fun to chat and shop and check things off the list.  As we were getting on in the afternoon, Kara suggested heading over to Rib Fest for a bite to eat.  That sounded like the best idea ever!

It wasn't long before we found ourselves in the line up at Billy Bones looking for a nice half rack of ribs.  While we were waiting the gentlemen behind us noticed that there weren't any ribs on the BBQ.  That's not a good sign.  Kara suggested asking if they still had ribs.  I ran up to the vendor and sure enough, they were out of ribs as well as all the other vendors.  Kara and I were crestfallen but decided we would head to Hunters in search of the elusive half rack of ribs.

Hunters did indeed have ribs---YAY!! But they wanted crazy amounts of money for it---BOO!! Kara had already gotten a Pepsi but we were on a time constraint so we told the waitress we were leaving and would settle up the pop bill--kindly she just let us skedaddle on outta there.

It was then we admitted defeat to not finding ribs for supper but we were still hungry and found a Chinese restaurant in Stratford.  We walked in and sat down but we both found the place had a funny odor to it--not one conducive to enjoying a good meal.  Once again we picked up our purses and headed down to the pub on the corner.  We only got sitting down when a waitress approached us to inform us that they're kitchen is closed on Sundays.  It was then I just let my head drop on the table.

Last ditch effort was stopping at Phinley's and it was well worth it.  Great food and service and the price was right too.

Such a fun and kinda crazy afternoon!

This evening as Marko and I were reading our books on the couch, he happened to glance over at me and saw this:
Made him laugh and take a second glance to make sure I hadn't morphed into an old Dutch woman!
And if you're wondering--this is an AMAZING book!  I'm loving it! Thank you Emily for literally putting this in my hands!

It Felt Like Summer

What a gorgeous day we had today.  So much sunshine and fun!

This morning the kids and I started our day by going into Charlottetown to check out a big yard sale that a bunch of homeschooling moms were putting on.  We had a great time chatting with friends while picking up some new treasures to take home.

In the afternoon we headed over to Janet's for a visit and more outdoor play time.  We did come in for a bit for lunch and some very tasty cake and lemonade.  The girls got dressed up in some serious bling and looked every bit the Egyptian princesses.

At home, Marko had tackled many handyman jobs and cooked up some super delicious steaks for supper.
 Pretty little butterfly.

And the amazing man that helps me get the tricky shots.

Rib Fest!!

What a fun Friday it has been!  The kids and I worked through cleaning the house this morning and then met the MacGregors at church to do more cleaning.  The kids did help out and then set off for some adventure outside.

The MacGreogors came over for lunch and a lovely playdate.  Love to sip my coffee and chat with Jackie as the kids play Lego or jump on the trampoline.

We had the unexpected surprise..(I guess all surprises are unexpected--kind of the essence of a surprise isn't it?!) of having Marko come home early for the weekend.  YAY!!

After Jackie and the kids headed out we decided to head in town and check out the Rib Fest...Mmmmm...Ribs.  So delicious!

There were four vendors to choose from and the ohhh the yummilicious aromas that greeted you as you looked around trying to find the right line to walk up to.  We decided to try out Billy Bones and we were not disappointed! So very, very good!

Don't those look amazing?!  The kids shared a half rack of ribs while Marko and I shared a chicken and ribs combo.  We also picked up some cornbread and fries.  It was a great evening out.  It was so good that we've decided to make it a Peric tradition to go to Rib Fest every year!

The chicken and rib combo. YUM!
