Creative Monday

We began our school day with our morning basket time and then we went for a walk down the trail by the waterfront.  We gathered some leaves and berries for our painting project.

Once we were home again I made hot chocolate for everyone and got things set up for painting.  We had a good but some what challenging time with this painting project.  This was the first time the kids have tried painting something that they were looking at. They usually just go nuts with their imaginations and colour everywhere. I was surprised at how hard they were on themselves if they thought they hadn't got it just right.  I think they all did a great job and we're inspired to try more projects.

After lunch we watched a documentary about Vincent VanGogh after which the children shared what they remembered about him and his work. It was fun to see them get excited about paintings they had already seen. We have a copy of his Cafe Terrace at Night and they all recognized it right away and they knew The Starry Night from a fun Youtube video I showed them which you can check out here.
