Winter Wonderland

In case you were wondering our power went out shortly after I posted last night and it didn't come back on until 8:30 this morning.  There are still many people without power and they may not get power back before late Tuesday into Wednesday.  In fact, only part of Montague has it's power back thus far. We had our friends the MacGregors drop in for coffee and all the enjoyment that having electricity brings.

This afternoon I went for a little walk down by the waterfront and took a few pictures.

Storm is a Blowin'

A short but sweet post.  The storm is blowing snow this way and that and there are power outages across the Island.  So I'm typing quick to get this post up before our power goes out.  Right now it looks like some parts of Montague are out...Stay cozy and warm folks!
We've been decorating! Kids were thrilled!

Christmas Parade

Such a lovely day in every way.  We slept in and then had some breakfast and got the day rolling.  We went shopping for a birthday present for a friend's birthday party in the afternoon and we bought some paint for the bedroom.  Guess I can really get going on that project now!

After lunch I took Nate to the birthday party and then came home and helped Marko and Sean rake and bag leaves.  It was such a gorgeous day to be outside and getting yard work done. We got our things packed up in the van for the parade and then we all headed over to pick Nate up from the party.

On our way into town Marko and I remembered that we had a kids eat free card for the Swiss Chalet and from there we formulated a new Christmas parade plan.  Normally we park at MCC and watch the parade from their parking lot but this time we plunked ourselves down in front of the DQ parking lot, not far from the Swiss.  It worked out really well.  The kids enjoyed the parade and afterwards we quickly packed up and then scooted over to the restaurant.  Lots of other people had the same idea but the staff were ready for the crowds and quickly got people seated and fed.

After our meal we did a bit of shopping and on our way out of Charlottetown we popped into the new Wendy's by the bridge for some free frostys.

Now we're looking "forward" to our first Nor'Easter of the year.  Sounds like some snow, rain and lots of wind are on their way!

Our little family, all cuddled up and waiting for the fun to begin.

Now for some of our favourite sights from the parade:

Gotta love a storm trooper in a Christmas parade.

This was just funny to watch.
And Levi got so excited when he saw this minion coming down the road!

Tree Lighting in Montague

This evening I took Emma-Lyn, Nate and Levi to the tree lighting at the Town Hall.  Marko took Sean to Stratford for his friend Abby's birthday party and to do some shopping.

The kids and I had a lovely time at the tree lighting.  It wasn't a big crowd out for the little show but it was fun and there was cider and hot chocolate and lots of lovely home made treats.

Afterwards we walked home and the kids got in their jammies while I popped some popcorn and got our movie ready.  We all cuddled up in the living room to watch The Muppets Christmas Carol.  Such a good movie and I still cried during the scene where Tiny Tim had died. I'm such a wuss.

 The tree!

More pretty lights.

This Is An Ugly Wall

And it is located in our bedroom.  And would you believe that this isn't the ugliest it's ever been?!  When we first moved in, this little spot was covered with tacky looking mirror tiles.  One of them broke so we took the rest down and we were left with an ugly flowery wall paper which was tearing in places but we just left it.

That is until today.  I came upstairs to dust but I got distracted by the ugly and just had to do something about the wallpaper.  I grabbed a scraper from the hallway storage and got to work.  Of course I began this project just before I had to get supper started and we have Awana on Thursday nights. Gotta love when you think these kinds of things through!  It's interesting to note that on top of this hideous wall paper was some lime green paint then more ugly wall paper and another ugly wall paper on top of that.

I'm very glad that I got all the paper off and my mess cleaned up and supper made before Marko came home.  Not sure what he would have thought if he had come home while I was in the middle of my mess.

And now that he has seen it, he's encouraging me to continue and maybe we can get our master bedroom painted sooner than later! Does he even realize what this means?!! Striping all the walls tomorrow!! Well, no...not really.  Tomorrow is too busy for that but maybe Monday!

Intensive Potty Training Time

Up until today potty training has not been going all that well.  Levi would happily go to the potty and sit for a bit but that was it. He seemed interested but just couldn't figure out what he was supposed to do while he was there.

After talking with Denise last night, it seemed it might be time to try the intensive training.  This meant bringing the potty to the kitchen, making sure he ate some salty foods so that he would drink more and hopefully pee in the potty.

This also meant that I needed to prepare some school work for everyone else that they could do on their own or with the help from each other. I photocopied some different worksheets and set them up on their clipboards so that they could work in the living room while Levi and I hung out in the kitchen.

I am happy to report that we had success!  And Levi was ever so pleased with himself! Lots of squealing and hollering, "I DID IT, I DID IT!!"  We had a few accidents but he does seem to be getting it.

The last thing the older kids had to do for me was build a scene from our study of Canadian history.

Can you guess which special moments in time these are?:

Trail Walk

The day was a bit drizzly and cool but that did not dampen our trail walking spirits.  Our homeschool group was going to do this particular trail this afternoon but afternoon walks don't work that well for us so we went out a little after breakfast.

The kids had a blast, there were lots of twists and turns and so many new things to see.

Levi was quite the trooper.  We walked 4.6 kms.  He did need to be carried every so often but even at the end he was excited about going up and down the hills and squealing with delight.

And this is the trail.  We just walked the red loop.  I'd love to come back to check out the blue loop sometime.  And I'd also love to come back to go cross country skiing here too!

Beautiful Balmy Sunday

What an amazingly warm day in November on P.E.I!  It was lovely to have the Bueckerts drop in on us this afternoon.  And we may have put them to work raking leaves in the yard.

Here is the crew, hard at work.
James would hardly slow down long enough for me to take a picture of him!

 Sweet miss Jane!

Miss Grace high up in our tree.

Master Gabe looking fine!

My Favourite Book

I've gone through my new to me books and this one is my favourite:

I think the kids will enjoy it as well.

Today has been a fairly quiet day... We didn't get off to a great start but we did have some moments of brilliance.  Sean and Emma-Lyn had piano lessons at Claire's which meant a new book for me to read.  I'm reading the Time Traveler's Wife and enjoying it.

Marko and I got several  home organizing tasks and minor repairs done which felt great and we got a little date time in the afternoon as well.

Library Book Sale!!

Oh happy day! We got our school stuff done and threw some lunch in our faces before jetting over to the library to be there for when the doors opened. We met a few of our homeschool friends there too. We pounced on the books as our kind librarian pulled the covers off of the piles of books.

The kids and I each found our own stack of gems. Here they are:
First we have Nate's, then Sean's, Emma-Lyn's and mine.  Sean even bought a few books for Levi which aren't in this photo.

 Nate's stack--he has a theme...

 Sean's stack.
 Emma-Lyn's stack.
And mine.  And in case you're trying to read all the titles here's some close up shots:

Modern Art, Votes and Books...Oh My!

It has been a busy couple of days.  Yesterday we went to the art gallery with our homeschool group. We looked at the modern art section where the tour guide shared information about the different pieces.

These were our two favourite pieces:
The artist had a lump of clay that he molded this way and that and then painted what he saw.  I love how 3-D it looks!

And this one is so cool:

It sure feels like you can peel those coloured blocks right off the painting!

Afterwards the kids got to try their hand at acrylic painting and making different textures.

Nate and Seth busy working on their masterpieces.

Today we joined another homeschooling family to learn about the Canadian election process.  Carolyn did a fantastic job sharing the information with the kids and engaging them in the different activities.

Casting their vote:

Afterwards we went out for pizza and play time at a park and the Stratford gym.  We made a quick stop in at the Bible for Missions store where I picked up these gems:

And would you believe there is a book sale at our library tomorrow?  I can't wait!!

Levi is Turning Three!!

Tomorrow is Levi's birthday!  I can hardly believe that this little guy is growing up so fast!  Tomorrow is a super busy day for us so we did our celebrating today.

This morning before school time I let Levi pick a movie to watch and he picked Cars 2 and I made some popcorn and everyone quite enjoyed themselves.

We got our school stuff done and in the afternoon we went with Janet and the girls on a little adventure. The kids loved exploring the fields while Janet and I did a little photo session. It was a gorgeous day to be out and about in nature.

This evening we had Auntie Linda and Uncle Henk join us for cake and ice cream.  Levi got his presents today and he was so ecstatic over every new little toy he got as were his older siblings who "helped" him play with them!

Yesterday the kids each played a piano piece for the fall recital.

Remembrance Day

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

This morning the kids and I went to our local cenotaph for the Remembrance Day service.  Marko and Levi stayed home.  Levi would not have been able to handle all the standing and quietness.

This afternoon the kids had piano lessons at Claire's house.  And Claire lent me this beauty:

And I am loving it.  Marko is at games night and now that my blog post is complete, I shall go back to devouring this lovely book!

Lemon King and Queen Night at Awana

We had a great day today.  We had a few errands to run this morning before settling in to do our school stuff.

In the afternoon we had a blast creating our kings and queens out of lemons.  This was such a fun little project to do with the kids.  They all worked on their own and I did one too.  We had some fun Irish tunes playing while we worked and the kids would get up to try some step dance steps and then they'd go back to their creations.

Our creations from left to right: Nate's, Sean's, Emma-Lyn's and mine.

For the Love of Leaves!

Another glorious day today!  The sun was shining and it was delightfully warm out!
This afternoon Sean and I raked the leaves and then everyone had a go at leaping into the gigantic pile we made. Lots of laughter and fun was had as the kids buried themselves and jumped out and just threw the leaves all around.

Our morning had been less than stellar so it was ever so nice to do something so invigorating and just plain fun together!

This evening Marko met up with his co-workers for wing night and I took the kids to Wendy's just 'cause I could.  We had coupons and I knew the kids would enjoy a special night out.

We came home and the kids got ready for bed while I tidied up the kitchen. Since Sean was eager to try out the new Carcassonne expansion I got Marko for his birthday, we decided to give it a go.

We had a great time.  Levi spent his time playing dinkies and every so often popping in to see how we were doing.  Sean won by two points!!

Someone was extremely exited about jumping in piles of leaves!

 Loving sliding into leaves!
Sean: "This is gonna be epic!"

 Leaves for everyone.
 Wait for it...
 Leaf explosion!

 Leaping higher and higher!
 Yay for leaves!

Sweetie pie!
