Dancing Shoes

I have a very happy boy tonight!  Sean finally has his own pair of dance shoes.  He's been doing a great job stepping in his good Sunday shoes but he was pretty pumped to get tap shoes.  Thankful for a his great step dance instructor who found the shoes for us!

Good Times Keep On Rolling...

I enjoyed a lovely evening out with my friends Shirley and Edith.  I picked up Edith and we stopped in at Sobeys to pick up a birthday cake for Shirley.  Then off we went to town to play games with Shirley.

We talked, we laughed, played a couple games and enjoyed cake and more junk food.  Can't wait to get together again with them for more fun!

Here is Shirley and her cake:

And here we are just getting into our game of Tsuro.

This morning the children surprised us by making breakfast.  They made chocolate chip pancakes and bacon.  Emma-Lyn also made her very own banana chocolate loaf. I was impressed!  And they even cleaned up afterwards!

And before you think that this was  an idyllic scene out of  Disney movie, I just have to say that my kids are still kids and they made a lot of mess and noise and they bickered while they did this.  At one point Levi even stole the surprise by coming up to tell us that they were making pancakes.

 Waiting for pancakes.

Clean up time.  So thankful for my kiddos!

Talking To Gramma Hope

Gramma Hope called this evening to chat with Emma-Lyn about her new room but Levi did not want to be left out and soon had the phone in hand as seen here:

We had a good homeschool day and the kids had their piano lessons today instead of on Friday.   We're hoping to go on a sleigh ride on Friday but we've lost a lot of our snow from all the rain we've gotten recently.

This evening the kids and I went to BuyRite and picked up a few things.  Nate bought some batteries for his Battle Bots and we all had a grand time taking turns battling our Bots in the kitchen.  Nate also picked up a couple of long glow sticks which turned bed time into a bit of a fun light show in mommy and daddy's room.  What a riot!

Emma-Lyn's New Room!!

It's been a little over a week and her room is DONE!!  She is so happy and just loves her new room.

Here are the photos of the transformation...  Okay so these first two are from when the room was Nate's when we first moved in.  I forgot to take a couple shots before I got started on taking down the wallpaper.  At least you get an idea of the kind of wallpaper that was up in her room.

Lots of flowers:

Then the paper came down and revealed a lot of ugly walls.

Time for some touch ups before applying the paint:

Time to PAINT!!  Emma-Lyn chose the colour Siesta...It's basically a lavender colour and so sweet!

 It's looking better already!!

The Final Touches:

And the Big Reveal:

And a big hug of thanks to the beautiful lady who made it all possible:  Thank you, June for all your hard work!

It'sThe Weekend!

We had a great day!  We had a lovely morning hanging out with the Bueckerts.  The kids played Lego, had some snack and then headed outdoors for some snow fun. Afterwards they came in to watch a show and have pizza for lunch.

In the afternoon Claire and Holly came for piano lessons.  I love piano lessons day because it means I get to hangout with Claire and chat while the kids play before she heads in to teach.  This time we even had a bit of chocolate to go with our regular cup of coffee! Yum!  While Claire taught I headed up to Emma-Lyn's room and began the task of sanding down the walls...Oh the dust! I was covered in it..yuck.  But the walls are looking better.  Paint is going up tomorrow!

 Gabe made a snow seat.

 I think he's pretty pleased!

This is James working on his snow toilet...cause every backyard needs one...

Jane enjoyed sliding into the heap of snow she piled up at the bottom of the slide.

Miss Creative

There is nothing Emma-Lyn loves better than to make something.  She received a lot of very creative gifts for her birthday and these are just a couple of them:

She made the Lego set yesterday. I Love the dragon!  She made the teddy bear today and his name is Ginger.

Something else fun that Emma-Lyn is receiving for her birthday is a bedroom make over!! She is super pumped about it.  Our lovely friend June came up with this gift and we're all working together to make it happen.  The kids and I started yesterday with taking down most of the wall paper and this afternoon June came over and we all worked on the tough spots.  We're having a lot of fun and looking forward to new room!

Happy Birthday Emma-Lyn

My big girl turned nine today!  She was pretty pumped!

Marko had an eye appointment at the hospital this morning so we spent a fairly uneventful morning waiting in the waiting room.  I did manage to strike up a conversation with a lovely couple and enjoyed hearing how they ended up on the Island.  Always fun to make new friends.

After the appointment we spent some quality time at Toys R Us to pick up Emma-Lyn's birthday gift. The kids drooled over all the Lego toys and most of the stuff in the store.

We stopped in at DQ for some celebratory blizzards before finally heading home.  It was a late lunch for all.  Marko went to bed to rest while the rest of us puttered and I got ready for my first tutoring session.

In the evening Grammie Peric and Auntie Linda and Uncle Henk came over for supper.  Emma-Lyn enjoyed all of her presents.  She loves getting craft items and was super excited about this pillow she got to make:
And Levi was super excited to run around the house in Grammie Peric's hat!

Emma-Lyn is Turning NINE!!

Tomorrow is the big day but we had her little birthday party this afternoon.

She had four of her friends over and we did gifts, cake and then munchies before they all settled in the living room to watch The Princess Bride.  And instead of doing loot bags, Emma-Lyn made a bracelet for each of her guests to take home.

It was a simple but sweet little birthday party.  The MacDonalds stayed a little longer to do supper and hangouts which was ever so nice.  We all had a wonderful time.  Emma-Lyn was very thankful for all her friends and her wonderful birthday party.

Curling Tournament

We were all down at the curling rink for 9:30 and a 10 o'clock start.  The kids were pretty excited and ready to go.  All of the players got a toque from the sponsor of the tournament which happened to be George's Deck and Recovery. The kids played three games but only four ends each.  There were some really great games out there today.  I have to say that the last game was the most nail biting and fun to watch and it didn't even include my kids!  It was the second to last rock and it landed on the button..the next team also landed on the button and so now they're sharing...back to the first and they throw wide..the second team with their last rock landed right on the button!!  There was much cheering and applauding! Such a great game!

The awards:

Emma-Lyn throwing her rock.  This is her first year and she did really well and managed to win a point for her team.

This is also Nate's first year and he enjoyed himself immensely.

And Sean and his first win after three years of curling.  He loves this sport and is looking forward to going to Provincials in March!

It's Late so This is Short...but Sweet!

It's been a busy week.  We had a soft start to our homeschool days and things went well.  I think we're all glad to back into a routine again.

Tomorrow Sean, Emma-Lyn and Nate have a day long curling tournament which should be fun!

Mr. Cutie Pants!

Fun in the Snow

We had a couple of false starts and some not so bright and shiny moments but we did make it outside to go sledding together.  The kids had a blast!  It wasn't the best sledding snow but that didn't stop them from having lots of fun!

Gotta taste test the snow...

And away they go:

 Oh yeah, this is fantastic!

More snow, but now his hands are wet and cold, time to get in the van.

The older kids enjoyed throwing themselves back into the snow like this:

Second Christmas

This past weekend has been such a blessing for us.  We feel as though we've gotten a second Christmas.  Both Marko and I and most of the kids were dealing with colds over Christmas and so the actual day was a little more subdued then normal.  Less real family time and more just napping and blowing your nose time. But this weekend we've been able to enjoy some real family time.

This morning after breakfast we all went out to shovel the snow.  Levi was quite the trooper and did a great job helping me shovel off the deck.  We had about 40 cms down and thankfully it was powder and not too hard to move around.  The kids soon grabbed their sleds and enjoyed bombing around the yard.  We were also very happy to see our friend Rob in his orange Kubota pull up to plow us out.

Here are the kids and our neighbour just hanging out in the snow.

For snack we had these which also gave the day a Christmas feel:
Yummy gumdrops!  My folks have a lovely video of a bygone Christmas where my sister and I are happily admiring our full gumdrop tree...Well, Karina was admiring it, but I was most certainly sampling it's delicious yummy gummy wares!  Had to have been dad who recorded it...I can't imagine mom letting me stuff my gob with that many gumdrops!!

During quiet time I started working on this:
Yes, another pyramid.  But this time it is solid all the way through.  By the end of it everyone was working on it.  I don't know why but I find this ever so satisfying!

After quiet time the kids watched some Little Bear while Marko and I tried out our new snowshoes!!  It was so much fun, we are very happy to have another reason to enjoy the snow!

Look dad, Marko is actually smiling!!

After our little excursion Marko and I decided to drive out to the church to see if the parking lot had been plowed. We stopped at Tims for a cafe mocha and a donut and then headed out on our little drive.  The roads were pretty good but the church lot hadn't been plowed so that meant no church service tonight.

While we were out we figured out our dinner plan and we thought it would be fun to do breakfast for supper, complete with bacon, scrambled eggs and pancakes.
 So yummy!

 Sean made this little sign!

I ask for a nice picture and this is what they give me...sigh...goofballs!

For dessert we broke out our little fondue pot and enjoyed some yummy melted chocolate.  It didn't take us long to go through that.
After supper and chore time we settled in the living room to watch Aladdin. A very cozy way to end our special day.
